Highgrove HUSKY NEWSLETTER
May 2023
Dear Highgrove Families,
We exist to serve the whole child, with a focus on building 21st century skills in order for ALL scholars to be productive and world ready citizens.
Hello Highgrove Families.
The month of April provided our scholars an opportunity for all to enjoy many engaging and fun activities.
- Every student whose family came to Open House had a great time showing off their classrooms and their learning.
- Kindergarten, second, third and sixth grade students enjoyed going on field trips related to science and history content.
- More scholars will enjoy field trips this month of May.
We are wrapping up our 2022-2023 school year in less than 15 days. But our scholars are actively still learning and also engaging in end of year assessments. Therefore it is important that all of our scholars be at school every day and be prepared for learning.

CHARACTER COUNTS EVERY DAY

WONDER
For the month of May, we will model, teach and practice WONDER with our scholars.
WONDER is:
- Wonder is to stop and say: “Wow!”
- Wonder is to marvel at mystery, to stand in awe before the unexplained.
- Wonder is to delight in beauty and mystery.
- Wonder is the first step on the path to knowledge.
At home, please join us in teaching and modeling to our scholars this character trait.
We will recognize scholars for this trait and HERO traits On May 19 for 1st - 5th grade and May 22 for Kindergarten in-person and May 23 for 6th grade at promotion. Teachers will send out invitations to the parents of the students who will be recognized at our virtual assemblies.
At School Everyday and on Time!
Our doors open at 7:40 am for students to arrive and have breakfast. The first bell rings at 8:05 am for students to line up and at 8:10, the instructional bell rings to begin learning. When our students arrive after 8:10, they miss critical minutes of social and emotional and academic learning. Just imagine arriving to class at 8:13 everyday, that is three missed minutes of learning for 180 days; this ends up being 9 hours of engaged learning lost. Please ensure your student(s) arrives to school between 7:40 am and 8:05 am so they engage in learning 100% of the day.
If your scholar is absent, please call our office at (951) 788-7296 to report his/her absence. For your convenience, we have also added an online form for you to report absences, please go to
Link: https://bit.ly/NEUHighgrove. This form is also available on our website.
In addition, reach out to his/her teacher to learn about what was missed in class and how the student can make up the learning. Many times the student can find all of the assignments in their Google Classroom.
