Elementary Integration Ideas
4K Creates eBooks
Ms. Balser and her 4K students at OPES use ShowMe to create digital stories of her students' informational texts. Click here for a sample of one student's digital artifact...aren't they smart??
Authentic Work in Canvas
Access to technology does not mean student creativity is lost. Instead, technology enables teachers like Mrs. Howe to provide her 4th grade students fast feedback on their concept maps to ensure accurate understanding of the reason for the seasons.
Tech Teams
Empowering students to engage in collaborative opportunities such as tech teams, is a GREAT way to build confidence while supporting technology integration in the learning community. See an example to get started here.
SECONDARY INTEGRATION IDEAS
Student ePortfolios
Students capture their learning artifacts of their choice through digital portfolios in Canvas. This is a GREAT way to encourage reflection on the learning process. And the best part? It's managed entirely by the learner with choices to include file uploads, rich content editor or previous course submissions (including audio/video recordings.).
Critiquing Through Peer Reviews
Peer reviews in Canvas is a great way for students to offer feedback and critiques to their peers before it even gets to the teachers. These IB students at NHS use the feedback to revise their writing before submitting to the teacher for review.
Quiz Statistics in Canvas
Administering exit slips using 'quizzes' in Canvas enables teachers to make instructional decisions based on the immediate feedback gathered through statistics feature. Did I mention the teacher doesn't grade anything?? Leaving valuable time to be focused on supporting each learner for success.
CANVAS CORNER - Focus: Collaboration
COMMONS
Commons is a FAST and easy way to share content between courses in Canvas. To learn more, view this screenshot tutorial or this video overview...it really is pretty awesome and VERY easy to use.
COLLABORATIVE PLC COURSE
A great way to share resources...whether you're 1:1 or not, this is a perfect way to continue the work of your PLC beyond the limits of a shared school drive. Here's a peak of a Kindergarten PLC course at OPES.
COLLABORATIONS
Collaborations in Canvas allows students to brainstorm broad topics in a space that automatically syncs to save. Consider how this may look in small groups, reading/writing workshop, pre-assessments, etc.
Cyber Seniors
Check out the 2-minute clip below, shared with us this week by Chris Smith, that demonstrates how technology can transform one's perspective and awareness of the world, no matter what age, as long as your heart and mind are open to explore the possibilities.
