Kindergarten
February 10th
Math
We have continued our Combinations within 5 Unit this week. In this unit, students are asked to add and subtract within 5. We took our first timed math fact tests this week. Students were given a sheet of paper with 9 addition facts. They had a minute to complete the facts. They did fantastic! The first day we practiced addition +0 facts, then +1 facts. We will continue practicing addition and subtraction facts and mixed facts to develop our fluency. The more we practice these facts the sooner students will have memorized these basic math facts. We will continue working toward this fact fluency and solving word problems in the coming lessons.
Valentines
Students will have time on Tuesday, February 14th to hand out valentines. There are 20 morning kindergartners and 14 afternoon kindergartners. Please remember we cannot send home any edible treats due to district policy.
Student Led Conferences
The students are excited to share their learning with you at our upcoming Student Led Conferences. You have received a 45 minute conference time. (Please send the confirmation back Monday.) These conferences are flexible and the amount of time that your child needs to show you their learning may vary. If you are here a little shorter or longer than 45 minutes it is perfectly fine! There will be about 3 families in the room at the same time so please just come in whenever you arrive and let your kindergartner lead the way! I will send a What to Expect note in the days prior to the conference with more details!
100th Day of School
Monday, February 13th is our 100th day of school! We will spend time next week celebrating with some fun activities to help learn place value and counting skills revolving around 100!
Writing
We are continuing to write complete sentences independently. Students share their sentence with their classmates before they return to their tables to write the sentence about a variety of topics. We are working to write lowercase letters throughout our sentences, sound out words, and put spaces between our words. We are making progress!
