MMS Summer Connections
Mooresville Middle School is happy to announce our 2021 Summer Connections program. MMS Summer Connections will begin on Monday, June 7 and end on Thursday, July 15. Students may attend the program between two and six weeks. Classes will be held on site Monday through Thursday from 8:00-3:30 with the exception of the week of July 5th. Classes that week will be Tuesday, July 6 - Friday, July 9. There is no virtual option for Summer Connections.
Summer Connections is a bridge program for students to be able to receive additional instruction from their current grade as well as a jump-start for coursework for next year. The purpose of the Summer Connections program is to provide an opportunity for in-person learning to address learning gaps as a result of Covid-19, but in a fun, engaging, and social environment. During the day, students will participate in:
academic classes, including time for small group instruction
electives (options include STEM, careers, chorus/drama, and healthy living)
a physical activity period
social-emotional activities
free breakfast and lunch
For current 8th graders who attend, the last two weeks of the program (July 6-15) will be held at Mooresville High School and will focus on preparing students for the transition to high school.
All students are eligible to attend this program, as space is available. However, we are required to prioritize spots for certain students based on academic progress and attendance. These students will be invited personally to attend Summer Connections. You will know if your student has been prioritized to attend Summer Connections because you will receive a separate email and phone call directly from the school by 8pm tonight.
Students will be able to attend the Summer Connections program in two-week increments, as space is available in the program, and based on identified student needs.
June 7 - 17 (Monday-Thursday)
June 21 - July 1 (Monday-Thursday)
July 6 - July 15 (Tuesday-Friday the week of July 6; Monday-Thursday the week of July 12)
Transportation will be provided for all students through community stops. Please note community stops are not students’ current bus stops and will be centralized stops in neighborhoods and the community. You will receive transportation information prior to the start of Summer Connections.
We invite all students who are interested in attending Summer Connections to complete this form by Wednesday, May 5 to be added to our Summer Connections Wait List. MMS will let you know if we have space available for your student by Friday, May 14 after we have finalized our prioritized student lists.

Update on Mask Requirements for MMS Students
While the mandate on outdoor activities has been lifted, please make sure your student continues to bring a mask to school to wear while indoors or, if you are attending an MGSD indoor event, please bring your mask. The indoor mask requirement is still in effect by the state at this time. Thank you for your cooperation!
MMS PTSO- Virtual Meeting May 10, 2021 @12pm
Attention All Parents:
As a middle school parent you are automatically a member of the MMS PTSO, welcome aboard!
We are looking for parent volunteers to join our 2021-22 MMS PTSO board. We understand that all of our parents are very busy and we want to clarify some middle school misconceptions about PTSO and the PTSO board. The middle school PTSO commitment is different from elementary and intermediate school. Our middle school PTSO parents are asked to participate about once a month, a lot of the participation can be done at a time that is convenient for you as a parent.
For the most part, parents will be asked to assist with teacher appreciation activities by sending in special treats. Once a year, the PTSO sponsors a dance, parents are asked to serve as chaperones. The PTSO board meets once a month to plan events. The MMS PTSO usually sponsors one fundraiser for the year. It is helpful to have a fully staffed board in order for the PTSO to have a positive impact on the students and staff of Mooresville Middle School.
The MMS PTSO plans to meet virtually once a month. We hope our virtual meetings will allow parents to flexibility to log in from home, work, or while on the run. We promise to keep the meetings brief and focus on the agenda. If you are unable to attend virtual meetings, please read the MMS Community Newsletter for PTSO updates.
The MMS PTSO is meeting virtually on May 10, 2021 at 12pm. If you are interested in attending please fill out the form below so Ms. Robinson can forward you the virtual link to the meeting. We hope to see you at the meeting.
2020-21 MMS Yearbook
MMS End-of-Grade Assessments
Preparations for MMS’s EOGs and Final Exams is under way. Due to state requirements, all students are required to take EOGs in-person for the 2020-2021 school year. Below you will see an infographic of testing dates for MMS.
Please reach out to Mr. Akelman (dakelman@mgsd.k12.nc.us) if you have any questions.
Parent Survey... Your feedback is IMPortant!!!
This year, we are using Panorama Education Survey Systems to get feedback from our MMS Families and Students.
We are asking parents to please complete the Family-School Relationship Survey. This survey is anonymous and is estimated to take around 24 minutes to complete. Your feedback is extremely important and helpful. The data from the survey will be utilized by the School Improvement Team and School Leadership Team for planning purposes. The results will be shared with staff and parents.
The survey is open from April 16 through May 7.
Use this link to complete the survey. If you have any trouble with the survey, there is a support email included at the link provided.
Students will participate in 3 surveys at school. Part 1 is the Student Survey Classroom Climate will be taken in classes on Friday April 30th. Part 2 is the Student Survey on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; this survey will be taken during IMPtime on May 6. Part 3 is the Student Social Emotional Learning survey and will be taken during IMPtime on May 13.
