ALT ALERT!

Del Amigo & Venture Alternative Education School

Principals Message

Hello Students & Families!

This week we wrap up our Quarter 1 progress grading period (Venture) and our GP1 grading period (Del Amigo). These grades will be visible in Infinite Campus next week! Students needing extra support in academics or attendance will be automatically scheduled into Friday ACCESS classes (they should follow their regular schedule i.e. 1st period ACCESS is held between 9:00-9:45 am). All students and parents will be informed of this addition, receive an email notification of being scheduled into ACCESS and ACCESS will be displayed on their schedule in IC. Attendance is taken!

In addition…students who would like to connect with our School Counselor, School Social Worker, Administrators, School Liaison, Casemanager, etc…. are always welcomed and encouraged to come in on Fridays! Please make sure you check IN and OUT at the front computer when you arrive and leave campus. We also have breakfast snacks and lunch is served at 11:30.

In keeping with our ongoing work with the SRVUSD Strategic Directions and our newly adopted Learner Profile, we are excited to engage in a program to measure school improvement, especially as it relates to school and classroom culture and climate. Your student will be asked to complete six brief questionnaires over the course of the year, to gather insights into their learning experiences on campus. As always, if you would prefer that your student refrain from taking these questionnaires, please let me know. We plan to administer the first questionnaire next week.

Take care,

Lynsie Castellano, Principal

Community of Culture

At Del Amigo and Venture, we are working to build a community of culture that is welcoming for our diverse groups of students, staff and families. Below are some of the events and activities currently happening on our campus, through online learning and throughout the greater Bay Area.

No Place 4 Hate: Ongoing, both schools. We will promote inclusion and acceptance for all, while we work to interrupt hate and intolerance. Our goal is to make our space a safe environment where everyone is seen, heard, respected and protected. We will do this through interactive lessons, discussions, community circles and more. This program is sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League. Ask your student about this week’s lesson on microaggressions.

Black Family Day: Los Positas College, Livermore, Saturday, 9/16- 10am-2pm

Come join the fun at LPC on Saturday, when students and families can meet faculty and staff, tour the campus, attend workshops and enjoy free food and music.

Girl Talk- The Confident Girl: Roundhouse Conference Center, San Ramon, 10/14, 1pm-5pm

At this fun event, girls and women come together to get the recipe to build their confidence. It's one day of motivational teaching, Life coaching, fun, entertainment (think fashion show) and lots of surprises. Our own social worker Monie Bohnsack will be guest speaker. Go to www.girltalk.me to get more information or register.

SLAM with Dr. Lori Watson: Dougherty Valley High School, San Ramon, 11/6, 8:30am-3pm

Student participants develop personal racial literacy and consciousness through historical and current contexts. They also work to cultivate tools and strategies to engage in discussions about race and identity, as well as develop leadership tools to begin to address and disrupt systemic racism as well as other isms. SLAM is open to any interested students in our district. See Ms. Davis for details or to register.

If you have any questions about these activities or events, please email Yolanda Davis, our on-campus liaison for Equity and MTSS. MTSS is a Multi Tiered System of Support that uses data to help match academic and social-emotional behavior assessment and instructional resources, to meet each student’s needs.

Counselors Corner

Hello Parents and Students:

We know the many positive effects of being thankful for the great things in our life. Choose 1 of these activities to do this afternoon and maybe feel a bit calmer.

All of our Alt Ed Staff are amazing. A special shout out to Nate Boles, Kathy Dillingham, Brittany McDonald, and Lisa Rainbolt. They have gone through additional changes this first grading period and have worked through the adjustments and move wherever they are needed. I'm so thankful they are part of our Alt. Ed Team.

The District is launching the development of the 3-year Local Control Accountability Plan (2024 - 2027), a State required action and expenditure plan for educational programming aligned to state identified priorities. The committee membership will be composed of staff, students, parents and community members.

Recruitment for LCAP Committee Representatives is underway and will continue until 9/22. Representatives include staff (certificated and classified), parents, students and administrators. Next week we will launch the recruitment campaign on social media and post a message to our website.

Interested individuals should complete this brief survey. The committee will be limited to approximately 30 representatives. If interest is greater than available slots, selection will be based on ensuring a broad representation from across the district.

LCAP Committee meetings are scheduled for the following dates from 5:30 - 7:00 pm and committee members are expected to attend all meetings: October 24, 2023; December 5, 2023; January 23, 2024; March 19, 2024; May 7, 2024

Applicants will receive notification letters the week of September 25.
