February 2020
Although February is the shortest of the months in the year, it was quite a busy month! The cold frozen ground is already giving us signs that winter is ALMOST behind us (fingers crossed!). We are looking forward to longer days, filled with sunshine!

Tobacco Law: IN EFFECT!
The American Lung Association has advocated for increasing the age of sale for tobacco products from 18 to 21 because it will help save lives. In December 2019, the legislation was included in the federal year-end legislative package and passed by both houses of Congress. President Trump signed the bill into law on December 20, 2019 and it immediately took effect.
Here are a few reasons why raising the sales age to 21 will make a difference: Also, IF YOU SEE IT, SPEAK UP! If you see establishments selling flavored vaping products to minors or to anyone in general, please contact the complaint line 401-462-3441 to report such incidents. It can be reported anonymously.
Friday Night....DONE RIGHT!
BIG Shoutout to the Lincoln Parks & Rec Staff, as well as the Lincoln Prevention Coalition's Youth Coordinators, Jessi and Amanda for yet another, successful "Friday Night Done Right"! And thank you to our friends at Texas Roadhouse, North Smithfield, for providing a healthy salad & giveaways for the attendees!
The third "FNDR" was held 2/21/20 at the Lincoln Youth Rec. Center. Approximately 40 Lincoln Middle School students enjoyed pizza, video games, socializing with their peers, & participating in various team building activities about mental health awareness (yes, Substance Abuse Prevention IS a fun learning experience!)!

Mocktail 2020
Students at Cumberland and Lincoln High School, as part of the ATI (Above the Influence) group, have been working hard, planning and honoring their assigned "victims" over the last few months.
On January 30th, during a LHS Basketball game, attendees were asked to wear the color blue to honor their adopted victim, Chuck. The LHS ATI Crew did a fantastic job organizing the event. The victim's family, who attended and spoke to the crowd about the dangers of impaired driving, was appreciative of the opportunity to spread awareness and prevention. For pictures and videos of the event at LHS, click HERE!
The " Mocktail” event is where young people across the state gather for an evening of fun and to share a serious and vital message and will entail school and community teams of youth developing mocktails, or non-alcoholic drink concoctions, as well as presentations from the teams. "Mocktail" is about their adopted drunk driving victim that they will present to members of the public that attend the event, and to judges. Presentations will be judged on mocktail taste, best use of the year’s theme, honoring of adopted victim, and the best pre-prom awareness message. The annual event is purposely scheduled close to the prom season.
This is a public event....Help us cheer on our amazing ATI Crews from Cumberland & Lincoln! This is a FREE event!
April 8th, 2020, 6pm. Mt. Hope High School.

Pick your "NO's"!
Have YOU Picked YOUR "No's"?!?!
The Lincoln Youth Coordinators have been VERY busy over the past month, meeting with 5th grade students in the District! A very big thank you to the Administration, Staff and the AMAZING 5th graders of Central and Northern Elementary schools for welcoming the Lincoln Prevention Coalition to present “Pick Your NO’s”!
”Pick Your NO’s” teaches our youth how to say NO to negative influences, ranging from bullying & substance abuse.
They were an amazing bunch of respectful, kind and fun young adults! We are looking forward to the scheduled dates with other Lincoln Elementary Schools in the coming weeks!
