Hot Chocolate Sale
Dear HRE families,
Mrs. Daniel’s and Mrs. Norton’s classes are working on ways to help others this holiday season. They are raising money to buy essential items for the Dayspring Center. They will be selling hot chocolate for $2.00 during lunch the week of December 10th-14th. Please send in exact change for these items as we will not have change. Students MUST have a permission slip signed in order to buy and drink this treat (permission slips were sent home this week). This must be finished by the end of lunch time.
Thank you for helping us help others,
Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Norton
A Message from Mrs. Gue
Our class is going to be working on a school-wide project where every person from HRE will make a Heart of Hope to give to others who have been through a difficult time (each staff member just received one of these special hearts last week!) This is going to be a big project so we need to get the word out.
To earn money for this big project, our school will be having a pajama day on Friday, December 14th and we are asking that every staff member and student who participates donate $1 (or more) to help us reach our goal of $3,500. This will allow everyone from HRE the opportunity to create a Heart of Hope during Art with Mrs. Fisher. This will allow us to share hope with others who have been through a difficult time. We will be having more dress up days as time goes on, but this will be our only one before winter break. We will have a special box for kids to put their money in that morning near the mirror area during Smart Start.
Click the link below if you'd like to learn more about the history of this organization (its just over 1 minute). https://www.ourheartsofhope.org/what-we-do/our-video.html
Thanks!
Mrs.Traci GueHRE Gives Back
We are excited to be having a Food Drive again this year. Our goal is to give our students and families another opportunity to experience the joy of giving. It may come as a surprise that there are many families in the Hamilton County area as well as families here at HRE who are struggling to put food on the table. Winter break is an especially hard time when children are not in school where they are assured of having one meal each day. We would like to ease that stress by providing boxes with two weeks’ worth of easy meals and snacks for those families that could use a little extra help this winter. Each class has been assigned items needed to assemble a box for a family in need. We are inviting each HRE family to donate the items listed below. We have an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children; both those who give and those who will receive. We hope this will give you an opportunity to talk with your children about gratitude and the joy of giving to those in need. Donations will be accepted now through Wednesday, December 12th.

News from the Coop Crew!
Our group of students is working to raise money for our chickens coop. One of our goals is to add cameras to the coop so that we can make real time observations and watch the laying process. We are also working to make the coop environment more accessible to all students at HRE and more inviting for visitors. The crew is going to be at the Pancake Breakfast on Dec. 8th with our holiday chicken ornaments. We will be accepting donations for the ornaments. Please stop by our table!!!

Book Donations for Preschool – Library Checkout & Hour of Code
If you are doing any cleaning lately and notice that you have a lot of board books or books that you are wanting to get rid of please think of donating them to HRE for our preschool program. Students are currently checking out library books and are keeping them at school and I’d love to turn your donations into books that they can take home and enjoy. Thank you for your consideration!
December is the month for Hour of Code and students at HRE are getting exposed to this in STEM with Mrs. McCane. I am working with several classes on projects for the STEAM night in February and this website is full of fun activities that they can do that give your child(ren) access to using technology and problem-solving skills. Please check out this website to see more ways that your child(ren) can learn about computer programming, engineering and computer science standards: https://hourofcode.com/us/learn

Volunteers and Lunch Visitors
Hoosier Road Elementary always has many opportunities for parents to become involved. Whether it’s through volunteering in the classroom or a PTO event, attending classroom activities or even eating lunch with your child, you must have a valid background check on file and view the anti-bullying training on-line. Background checks are valid for three years. Please allow up to 6 business days for checks to be completed. Please follow this link for complete directions: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx
We want you to be able to interact with our students but we also need to adhere to strict safety guidelines set forth by our school district. Look for an email from Safe Visitor Solutions which will issue a bar code unique to you. Please bring that bar code (on your phone or on paper) on your first visit to HRE so we may take your photo! Thank you for your compliance and for helping to keep all of our students safe.
