Patriot Post
January 10, 2020
Welcome back and Happy New Year to all of our Patriot families! All of us at Corley Elementary hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are off to a great start in 2020.
The new year often brings many resolutions and hopes for us as we look ahead to the possibilities of what the upcoming year can bring. January is a great time to bring the focus back to academics. Start 2020 by helping your child do their homework at a consistent time and talking with them on a regular basis about school. It is important to always have good communication between your home and school, so please check in with your child’s teacher frequently to help them succeed academically and socially.
Please check out the calendar for all of the dates of important events that are happening this month.
We are looking forward to the 2nd semester and ready to finish the year strong!

It is that time of year when inclement weather could impact the ability of schools to remain open. The Gwinnett County Public Schools has the option of making up days missed due to inclement weather using Digital Learning Days (DLD). Should a decision be made to cancel school, students, parents, and staff will be notified via School Messenger of the closing and if the day is a Digital Learning Day.
How does a Digital Learning Day work for students?
- On the day that school has been canceled, teachers will post assignments on their eCLASS C&I course pages. Elementary school assignments will be posted by 9 a.m.
- Students will use the My eCLASS student portal to log in to their eCLASS C&I course pages where they will access assignments, resources, and other materials. If the power is out, a student may access the teacher’s course page when power returns. If a student does not have access to a computer or device (tablet, smartphone, etc.), the student can get the assignment once school resumes.
- Student work will be expected to be turned in to the teacher (either digitally or in person), using the school’s process for turning in work following an absence.
Colder Weather
Please be sure your child is wearing temperature/weather appropriate clothing. Also, please be sure to write your child’s name in all items.
Car Riders Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Car riders should NOT arrive on campus before 8:20 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before this time because there is no staff available to supervise your child.
Buses will arrive and unload in the front of the school between 8:20 - 8:40 a.m. The side parking lot is the ONLY place for student drop off prior to 8:50 a.m. Please do not drop off students in the front bus lanes.
By following the student drop off procedures, we ensure the safety of our students. Students arriving after 8:50 a.m. must be checked into the building by an adult.
All students are dismissed at 3:20 p.m. Afternoon Car riders must be picked up by 3:40 pm.
