News and Notes

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a blessed First Sunday of Advent and a wonderful Thanksgiving break. This December will be a very different one at Transfiguration. The Christmas Season has always been my favorite time of the year as both a teacher and a principal. I love the traditions such as the Christmas concert, tree lighting and Christmas Fair. With COVID restrictions, we will not be able to celebrate the season the way we always do. My first inclination was to feel angry, but instead I have come to realize that although this Christmas season will be very different it does not have to feel empty. The Christmas spirit is still very much alive and I want to focus on those things we can do this year and find new ways to celebrate the season.

Please join the parish on Saturday, 12/5/20 for Transfiguration's Christmas Tree Sale. Preorder forms for wreaths and decorations were due today. Don't forget our Virtual Book Fair ends this Thursday December 3rd! All books will be directly shipped to your home and will arrive in time for Christmas. Thank you to Mrs. McNally and the Parent's Guild for organizing our book fair.

Tomorrow is our #GivingTuesday Charity Dress Down: Transfiguration School will host a "Charity Dress Down" to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The money will then go to Transfiguration Church as they work to provide 45 local families with groceries and gift cards this holiday season. Students wishing to participate can bring the suggested $2.00 donation to their teacher on Tuesday morning. This is an optional fundraiser, and school uniforms may be worn for those who do not wish to participate. Don't forget your sneakers if it's a gym day!

Have a great week,

Ms. Kazan

$20,000 Raffle

We only have a few weeks left before our big raffle. Don't forget that this is a mandatory fundraiser. I find that the easiest way to sell them is to post the link on your social media. I sold three tickets, just by posting it on my Facebook page. Easy as that! Don't forget to mention the amazingly good odds. Only 400 tickets sold. Let's sell these tickets and help our school!!! The link is below.

Service Update

Tis’ the season of giving, and this #GivingTuesday, we will come together as one Transfiguration community to celebrate and promote small acts of kindness.

GIVING TREE - November 23 through December 11: Thanks for your quick action and generous hearts! Wrapped gifts can be returned this Saturday,12/05, between 9:00 am-2:00 pm at the Christmas Tree Sale OR Friday, 12/11 at Transfiguration School. We have 6 Gift Tags remaining on our virtual tree if you'd like to help out! Contact Gina Mueller, glranieri@live.com, or 914-500-3732 with any questions.

ADVENT PRAYERS FOR SOYAPANGO - The attached letter and Advent Prayer Calendar will be sent home today with your child. Instead of collecting "loose change" this Advent, we are asking for prayers for our friends in Soyapango, El Salvador. In addition to facing extreme poverty and battling COVID-19, they have endured natural disasters this past year, forcing some of the families to lose their homes... they can really use our prayers this year! The Advent Calendar is a way for the children to thoughtfully color the figure as they say a prayer each day. After Christmas, the prayer sheets should be returned to school as they will be sent to St. Joseph the Worker to be distributed at the school as a sign of our friendship and solidarity with them.

Remember, during the holiday season, there are many ways to spread cheer through our community and impact the lives of those in need. Thank you!

Holiday Shop

Our school will still be holding the annual holiday shop for the children to shop for their Christmas gifts for family and friends. Although this is usually held during school so the children can keep their gifts secret and independently buy for their family members, this year to ensure social distancing we will be holding it online. Please see the letter and flier below. These will be sent home tomorrow as well.
