Reading PLCs

We will meet this Thursday for Reading PLCs. Make sure you bring student reading work samples.

If you are in grades 1 or 2, please bring student reading data (like BAS) because we will be comparing data with MOY TPRI results to discuss which students move forward with dyslexia testing.

From Your Captain

We will be doing Mock STAAR on Tuesday. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we use all available staff and spaces in order to facilitate small group testing.

Here are the small group rosters:

Please send Mrs. Helton one shopping cart PER GRADE from Lakeshore with your "prizes" from our games last Monday. The sooner these are turned in, the sooner they will be ordered.

All Things Summer School

Summer school will be at KENDRICK ELEMENTARY due to campus construction. The dates are: Monday-Thursday, June 4-27 from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm.

Job Fair & Early Resignation

The Waco ISD Job Fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 30 from 9:00-11:30 am at University High School. If you are interested in helping to "work" our table, please email Mrs. Logan.

If you are not planning to return to Alta Vista for the next school year, it would be helpful to complete the early resignation so that we can being the hiring process in order to grab the best candidates. You are welcome and encouraged to come talk to Mrs. Logan if you have any questions or concerns.

TELPAS Update & Deadlines

• Get student folders from Mrs. Alvarado during your conference time. You may rate your students’ writing in our office or take it back to your classroom.

• If you choose to take your folders back to your classroom, they need to be secured like STAAR materials(locked in a cabinet if you leave the room, can not be left on your desk unsupervised). They MUST be brought back to our office at the end of your conference period.

• If you would like to rate after school, let Mrs. Alvarado know. Folders must be returned by 4:30 PM.

***If you have any questions, please let Mrs. Alvarado know.***

Conscious Discipline

Please reinforce our MOST IMPORTANT SCHOOL AGREEMENT: Be Safe! My job it to keep you safe and your job is to keep the school safe.

Check out March Morning Meeting plans HERE. Send Mrs. Helton a picture of your Class Poster with Ideas for Solving Problems to earn House Points!

March Makerspace

Check out this FUN Makerspace challenge for March. Students will be able to apply different science skills as they create a new "uni-animal" based on "Not Quite Narwhal" by Jesse Sima. Email Mrs. Helton to check out the cart.

Staff Members of the Week!

Congratulations to Ms. Columbus for being our STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK for always being willing to help serve breakfast to the PK3 class when help is needed.

Congratulations to Mrs. Spark for being our TEACHER OF THE WEEK for her continuous efforts to innovate and for writing grants to bring more experiences to the classroom.

Lead4ward App

The Lead4ward App has so many neat tools to explore. My favorite is the "Check For Understanding" tool. You set a timer, and when it goes off, you choose a "Think It Up!" question to pose to your class. If you have a hard time remember to ask those HOT questions, this is the perfect tool for you.

RECOMMENDATION: Ask your question, and give student a minute to think on their own or write down a response. Then give them time to share with a partner or group. You could also get students moving by having them pair up with students sitting at a different table. Have several groups report out their discussion.

Growth Mindset Game

Here is a great activity to encourage your students to practice their growth mindset. Just print and cut and you're ready to go!
