Talking is like ketchup
I sat in my dad’s living room reading one night while he watched television. An hour passed before I realized it, & I felt bad for not speaking during that time. I asked if he was OK, & he said yes. Then I apologized for not talking more. “Carmen,” Dad replied. “Talking is like ketchup. If you like the meat enough, you don’t need the ketchup—& if you like the company enough, you don’t need the conversation.” My dad never earned a college degree, but he was the smartest person I ever knew. —Carmen Mariano, Braintree, Massachusetts

making a difference
- Celebrating work anniversaries this week - Noah Jennings, Recreation Program Supervisor, & Robert Misner, Construction Service Maintenance Worker - 1 year
- We celebrate the life of Juanita Hughes who recently died. Juanita served as Deputy Court Clerk & is best known for her joy for life. Where there is laughter, you will likely see Juanita nearby.
- Highlighting community leaders serving on Community Center Board - Greg Broadbent, Mark Bullimore, Tray Harkins, Sherri Branson Hurt, Christy Marker, Mayor Mark Spohn, & Nate Williams. Board advises City Council, School District & Park Board regarding operations & maintenance of Community Center. Thank you for designing a fabulous facility & being a great sounding board.
- Saturday, the outdoor pool at the community center quietly hosted a soft opening for city employees & their families. This was the perfect arrangement for a new staff to make adjustment & settle in to guarding swimmers for the long hot summer. We congratulate key persons who had the vision & ability to bring people together to build the best facility for our community. Thank you City Council, Community Center Board & Steering Committee members, Jesse Hall, Nate Williams, Drake Pollard, Blake Stevens, Cassie Kinnard & Debbie Einerson for leading the project. It is well done. As Jesse reminded us, the Center strives to deliver Quality & include All. The center announced the pool will open to the public on Tuesday. Next...a very creative staff will come up with new opportunities to enjoy this new place to bring family & friends together to make memories.
