Winter Weather School Closing Information
As a reminder, if winter weather interrupts our ability to open schools or hold extracurricular activities, we will do our best to notify you as early as possible and in a number of ways. School closing information can always be found on our website, social media channels, and by visiting the Emergency Closing Center website. We will use our Blackboard messaging system to send alerts through email, text, and phone. Now is a good time to log in to Tyler SIS to view your account information and be sure phone numbers and email addresses are correct! Your school can assist you with any changes you may need to make. Please remember to send students dressed appropriately for the cold!

Boulder Hill Pen Pals program - A special message from Ms. Lopez (1st grade Dual Language teacher)
We got mail!
Our 1st and 3rd Grade Dual Language students received their first response letters a couple weeks ago from their Pen Pals.
Our 1st and 3rd grade BH Dual Language students are part of the Pen Pal Program with the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Our Boulder Hill students exchange handwritten letters with SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) University students. Through their letters, the University students establish a friendship with our young learners, while teaching them about careers, in particular in the field of Engineering.
In addition, the participating students are able to enhance their reading and writing skills in Spanish.
This week our students are finalizing their second letter to send their letters in the next couple of days.
A huge shoutout to Mrs. Farries, Mrs. Kennedy, Ms. Lopez and Mrs. Villa Parra for their continued participation in the program! Thank you Pen Pals for inspiring our little ones!

Boulder Hill Readathon continues over Winter Break
Hello Boulder Hill families.
Our School-wide Independent Readathon is in full force. Each grade level weekly minutes are being calculated, and I can't wait to see what grade level reads the most minutes this year!
We'd love for our Bobcats to continue their independent reading during the break. If you'd like for your child to contribute their reading minutes to their grade level points please submit your child's minutes using this survey. https://forms.gle/CJKb9nevrtqtWZS78
Let's encourage our little Bobcats to READ! READ! READ!
Social Emotional Learning - Tips for handling holiday stress
The holiday season can be fun and exciting for students and families; but it can also be a time of stress and big emotions. Here is a 1 minute YouTube video on "Tips for handling holiday season stress" https://youtu.be/O29e4rRMrV4 from St. Louis Hospital. Parent emotions are also important for student SEL. With us working together , (home and school) we can help to streghten students Social Emotional skills.
I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful.

A message for Boulder Hill 5th grade students from Thompson Jr. High School Band & Choir Directors
Good afternoon Boulder Hill 5th Grade Students and Families! I hope everyone is staying safe and warm on this Remote Learning Day!
My name is Mr. Daniel and I am the band director at Thompson Junior HIgh School. Last Friday, the Thompson Band and Mrs. Kleinmaier's Holiday Choir had the pleasure of performing for the 5th Grade students at Boulder Hill. We had a wonderful time sharing our love of music with your students!
We would love to see your students join the band and choir program at Thompson Jr. High School next year. It is very easy to get signed up. If you click on the link below and input your contact information, Mrs. Kleinmaier and I get you signed up to take choir, band, or both as 6th graders at Thompson Jr. High. SD 308 schools have worked hard to build a schedule where students can take both band and choir during the same semesters without having to choose one over that other.
If you decide that you'd like to join our 6th grade beginning band, after you fill out the Google Form below, I will email you with an invitation to come to Thompson Jr High sometime mid-January to try out all of our band instruments and select the instrument that best fits you. After you select and instrument, we will help work with you to explore options for instrument rentals and help you secure an instrument to use next year. At Thompson Jr. High, we work very hard with our community partners to make sure that every student has the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument despite financial or situational circumstances.
As you may know, SD 308 has some of the finest music programs in the entire state of Illinois. We would love for you to become part of our community of musical champions! Instrument placings will be first come, first serve till all band positions are filled.
Please sign-up today!
All questions regarding joining choir at Thompson should be directed to Mrs. Kleinmaier at jkleinmaier@sd308.org.
All questions regarding joining band at Thompson should be directed to Mr. Daniel at cdaniel@sd308.org.
