What is new?
I wanted to talk to you briefly about our behavior system in place in the classroom. They have an opportunity to move up on the system 2 times or move down 3 times. Everyone starts on Ready to Learn, if your child stays in the green zone they will earn their happy face in their folder. If they move up even better and the top they get a special something from me. To go down means "safe seat, buddy room or office". This is when I will write a brief note in their folder. If behaviors get out of hand we will discuss what is going on. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.
In a few weeks we will have a author coming to talk to Kindergarten. Her name is Ann Ingalls. You can check out her website at http://anningallswrites.com. We are really excited for her to come. A note will be coming home today with more information. Here is a quick bio about her.
Ann Ingalls has been writing for all of her adult life, both as an early childhood and special education teacher and as a freelance writer. She is the author of 26 books in print or forthcoming. Her first picture book, LITTLE PIANO GIRL (Houghton Mifflin) was published in 2010. ICE CREAM SOUP, an early reader, was published in spring of 2013 by Penguin Books for Young Readers. A series of BIGGETY BAT books (Scholastic), and J IS FOR JAZZ, World Book/Bright Connections, launched in fall of 2014. What we learned!
Writers Workshop-Your child is working so hard in Writers Workshop. I love how they are trying to write letters down for the sounds they hear and some are even using their new sight words. We talked about what Writers Workshop looks like, introduced their writing folders and most importantly talked about what to do when we think we are done with our writing. :)
Math Workshop-In Math we looked at our Birthdays and talked bout who was 5 and already 6. We did some counting stations as well as practicing counting to 100. In math
