Commercial Animal Testing

And why it should be stopped.

Some background on commercial animal testing...

Commercial animal testing primarily focuses on cosmetics such as shampoos or skin irritant revilers. When this tested on animals, it can cause scars, bleeding, infection, draize eye irritancy or open wounds.

The animals that are primarily tested on are mice and rats of both genders.

What we can do to help stop it...

Animals are, in scientists opinion, good for experiments, however, in many occasions, that is proven false. As stated from the New England Anti-Vivisection Society, a shocking 92% of animal testing passed on animals fail when conducted on humans.

There are several better alternatives that both have more accuracy on whether it can be used on humans or not, and, do not harm anything.

  • Harvard’s Wyss Institute has created “organs-on-chips” that contain human cells grown in a state-of-the-art system to mimic the structure and function of human organs and organ systems. The chips can be used instead of animals in disease research, drug testing, and toxicity testing and have been shown to replicate human physiology, diseases, and drug responses more accurately than crude animal experiments do.
  • Researchers have developed a wide range of sophisticated computer models that simulate human biology and the progression of developing diseases. Studies show that these models can accurately predict the ways that new drugs will react in the human body and replace the use of animals in exploratory research and many standard drug tests.
  • in vitro (test tube) test methods and models based on human cell and tissue cultures

Opposing viewpoint

Yes it is true, that for the past 100 years animals have been used to make life saving cures and treatments for animals. However the point still stands that there are several alternatives. Even if the technology we now have today, was not available then.
