Social Contracts
During the first few weeks of school, all classes on campus (and across FISD) created Social Contracts. The social contract is designed to let all participants in a classroom know what behavior is acceptable and what is not. It is an agreement of behavior to promote a self-managing class. The primary questions considered when developing a social contract are:
1. How do you want me to treat you?
2. How do you want to treat each other?
3. How do you think I want to be treated?
4. What will we do when the social contract isn't being followed?
Our students created social contracts in groups where they were assigned roles such as facilitator, scribe, spokesperson, time-keeper, and affirmer. The groups answered the questions, reconvened as a class, and narrowed down their social contract to a final product. Social contracts are referred to constantly and modeled within the classrooms. Please ask your children about our social contracts that are in place in their classrooms.
Our teachers and staff are also consistently asking students 4 questions when students need to be redirected. Students know that these 4 questions are intended to help guide and direct them. See photo below to view the 4 questions.
We are very excited to teach our parents and families other parts of our Capturing Kids' Hearts process.

WATCH D.O.G.S. ® (Dads Of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative.
There are 2 primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. ® program.
1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Program Benefits
- Students gain positive male role models.
- Schools gain an extra set of eyes and ears. The presence of a father or father figure will provide an additional deterrent to bullying, enhance a sense of security in the building, and will help to create an environment conducive to learning.
- Fathers get a glimpse of their students’ everyday world and learn about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions today’s youth are facing. As a result, they can learn to relate better to their student and hopefully connect with them.
- Fathers gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on their student’s life in three critical areas including: academic performance, self-esteem, social behavior.
- The WatchDOGS volunteers provide real and important help for the teachers and the students.
Who are WatchDOGS (Dads Of Great Students)?
WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. ® school. During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

Forney ISD Bond Information
With Forney ISD expected to grow by more than 8,500 students by 2029 – an increase of over 70 percent – the Forney ISD Board of Trustees and District administrators commissioned an Innovative School Facilities Planning Committee to develop a comprehensive bond package to help us better manage this rapid growth.
Their work led the Innovative School Facilities Planning Committee to recommend a comprehensive $623 million bond package to prepare Forney ISD for our fast growth in student enrollment. The Forney ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved this recommendation May 29. Voters in the district can vote for the bond Tuesday, November 5.
Lewis Elementary will be a designated voting site!

Canvas - There is a new Canvas link for parents to log in! It’s on our website but we want you to have it as well: https://forneyisd.instructure.com/login/canvas
A quick letter that teachers 3-12 can share to help parents create observer accounts, to connect to Canvas and their students. As a reminder, if documents parents are trying to access is via google, and embedded into Canvas, they might not be able to view it because the sharing rights are typically set to "Individuals using an @edu.forneyisd.netaccount" and can only be accessed by students. If parents would like to view these documents, they should ask their students to share with them what they are learning.

Lunch Times
We do ask for our first two weeks of school to be visitor free for lunch time so we are able to establish routines and procedures for our students.
If you plan to deliver lunch to your child any day this year, please bring to the campus by 10:30 so our front office will have plenty of time to deliver. If you bring after 10:30 we will request that you deliver it to them during their lunch period.

Bullying Report Form
It was brought to our attention that some of our parents and students aren't aware there is a way to report bullying by visiting our website www.forneyisd.net and clicking the Student icon, then it is listed in the alpha directory. As always, bullying can always be brought directly to the attention of our teachers or staff. This is just a way that it can be reported and addressed anonymously.
