Carus School News
Can you believe it's already December? I hope everyone was able to have a bit of rest and recharge this past long weekend, before we head into the business of the next few weeks.
Yesterday the Carus staff spent time learning and collaborating on the topic of increasing writing opportunities for kids. Writing was the area that we found to be the most difficult to instruct kids when they were outside of the building, so our professional development work was centered on finding ways to help kids be able to better express themselves through informational writing. We always appreciate the opportunities to continue to develop the craft of teaching.
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Sam Thompson
Vaccines for 5 to 11-year-olds
With children ages 5 to 11 now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination in addition to those 12 and up, many of our students have begun the vaccination process. As shown on this Oregon Health Authority diagram, this will further help us continue to keep kids in school full-time and in person. For those families whose students are or will be vaccinated, please note the following:
- To have your child's COVID-19 vaccination added to their immunization record, please email a copy of their vaccine card or verification to our health assistant, Melinda Ross (melinda.ross@canby.k12.or.us).
- Students who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 won't be required to quarantine if exposed to someone who tests positive, unless they begin to show symptoms or test positive themselves. You will still be notified of any school exposures. (We are awaiting pending quarantine policy changes for students who are not vaccinated)
Reminder: SafeOregon
We are excited to announce that the SafeOregon app will be available on all student iPads starting this week.
SafeOregon is a 24-hour anonymous tip-line individuals can use if they see or hear about instances of bullying, violence, threats, drug use, suicidal thoughts and more. The goal is to keep students safe by preventing threats from coming to fruition.
There are a number of ways to report, including:
Texting or calling 844-4-SAFE-OR (844-472-3367)
Emailing tip@safeoregon.com
