Hip Hip Hooray!
This Week's BIG Deals:
~ All Phases of K12 School-wide audit has been completed! Again, special thanks to Kristy Davis and Ewineya Hall for making the appropriate preparations.
~School Redesign Application has been submitted to the DOE. Can't wait to share a snippet at our Face to Face PD.
~ LEAP Connect (ELA & Math) and LAA 1 (Science) began this week. Special thanks to our SPED team members who quickly made adjustments to get those students tested.
~The Recovery Team list is getting shorter and shorter by the day. We will continue scheduling home visits for those students who are on the NO CONTACT list.
~ I am still working with our regional support on our transitional plan in the absence of a Special Programs Manager. Please continue to reach out to our POCs or me if there's an issue that requires immediate attention.
~ FAC meeting on 3.8.18 at 2pm.
Project Elevate is BACK!
The Paralympics are set to begin in PyeongChang, with Opening Ceremonies taking place on March 8. Similar to K12's marketing Olympic Hopefuls campaign, K12 is also looking for Paralympians and Paralympic Hopefuls who attend or graduated from K12 partner schools. If you know of any at our school, please submit them to Project Elevate! Hopefully K12 can place more great stories about K12-powered student-athletes, like this one about OHVA student Austin Osner, a 12-year-old who is training for the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Team in Taekwondo. (Yes, please share summer sports too!)
Thank you all for continuing to promote Project Elevate (elevate.press/link) within our school. In the second quarter of FY18 (October-December), the earned media featuring K12-powered students had the equivalent of placing $1.8 million in advertising in K12's local media markets. For a glimpse at just some of the stories K12 has shared, you can view last quarter’s highlight reel here. K12 couldn’t share these great stories without help from us!
Enjoy your weekend!
~Danielle

The Spirit Days for Testing
FAST Team
1. FAST for Lack of Communication
· After 2 phone calls and an email noted in a 48 to 72 hour period, refer to FAST for Lack of Communication. TVS Notes for documentation including the Students First: Teacher Compliance Running Note - FAST referral.
2. FAST for Emotional (Non Academic/Engagement Concerns) (FRC Referrals)
- Referral to FAST with FRC Codes. Mr. Payne will determine from there if the situation is temporary or ongoing. Ongoing concerns will be addressed with Mr. Payne by referring to Related Services (Mr. Hodges) for an evaluation by a counselor. Mr. Hodges will give information on any related services the students may need to the IEP Case holder so that the IEP can be amended.
3. Missing Logged Attendance - 10+ Days, Mrs. Burnett sends names to Annemarie.
4. SPED Attendance/Engagement w/ FAST Alignment:
Below are the steps to address attendance of students with disabilities. This includes students with IEPs or IAPs/504 Plans.
A review of the following data will assist you in determining if a student is truant, as well as the necessary action steps.
DATA to Reveiw:
1. Last login date
2. The OLS Plan to verify the last day the student worked on a lesson
3. TVS Notes for class attendance
The following are steps to take once the student has accumulated the applicable days. Teachers will review their students each Monday to determine if a student falls into these ranges of absences to move through these steps.
Day 5
- Case Manager schedules an IEP team review meeting (conference). Use the student progress tracking form to document your meeting and outcome.
- Case Manager will issue a participation/attendance contract to the parent/LC.
- FAST Referral: If the teacher is unable to make contact to hold an IEP team meeting (conference) after 3 attempts or if after the IEP team meeting is held it is determined that the concern is engagement rather than academic, the teacher will refer the student to FAST. SPED Teacher will join the FASL at the next Teacher FAST Collaboration Session to assist in creating the BOT.
Day 7
- Case Manager will send a follow-up "must read" email to the parent/LC.
Day 10+
- IEP team (conference) must reconvene the IEP and conduct a manifestation determination review (MDR). Include a member from the FAST team.
- MDR must be conducted prior to a curriculum lock.
FAST Tier 4:
- Student has gone through tiers 1 - 3 with FAST and are not showing gains (BOT plans not met) and the student should have also gone through days 5 - 10 steps of the SPED Attendance policy.
- Annemarie will send an email about a Curriculum Lock Warning.
- Annemarie will conduct the Tier 4 parent/admin meeting to determine admin withdrawal.
Questions/Procedures to Address Prior to Administrative Withdrawal for Truancy
Is this student marked in TVS as McKinney Vento or has the family discussed a homeless situation or a temporary living condition? If so, this student’s curriculum may not be locked or be Administratively Withdrawn for attendance/ truancy.
- Have you discussed the issue of absences with the family? There should be notes in TVS discussing the truancy issues as well as a student IEP progress tracking form in the student’s physical file.
- Has a home visit been conducted? This should be completed if student is in a reasonable distance from case manager, or administrator.
- Has the Case Manager schedules an IEP team review meeting, and used the student progress tracking form to document the meeting and outcome.
- Has the Case Manager issued a participation/attendance contract to the parent/LC.
- Has the Case Manager sent a follow-up "must read" email to the parent/LC.
Once YES can be answered for each question and the student continues to be truant, the IEP team must reconvene the IEP and conduct a manifestation determination review (MDR). Include a member from the FAST team.
MDR must be conducted prior to a curriculum lock.
- Compliance Liaison completes her portion of Manifestation Form and submits to Teacher of IEP Authority
- Teacher of IEP Authority completes his/her portion then sends to Academic Administrator
- Academic Administrator completes her portion and sends to Dana Dehart
- Dana Dehart completes her portion and sends to Compliance Liaison
- There will be a 48 hour turn around for return of completed Manifestation Forms to Annemarie.
- Curriculum is locked if Manifestation Form is approved
- In the event that the exceptionality is determined by Dana and the Teacher of IEP Authority to be the cause of the noncompliance and the lock is refused, Dana will create a plan within one week to be sent to Teacher of IEP Authority, Academic Administrator, Danielle, Liz, and Annemarie. Annemarie will upload the plan into TVS. Teacher of IEP Authority will monitor Dana’s plan and report back to her after one week of working the plan with the student and LC.
If you have concerns about the student being released, please join us in our collaboration meeting on Wednesday at 8:30.
