An Update From The Bear Den
There are quite a few new faces in the halls at Danville Elementary this fall. We have several new students throughout the building, as well as new staff. We will be introducing a few new staff members in each of our Bear Necessities Newsletters this fall. See below for this month's introductions.
Danville Elementary has focused our PBIS efforts this year on a theme of TEAMWORK and SPORTSMANSHIP. This year's PBIS Kickoff was centered around fun, team-building games and activities for our students. The SEBH/PBIS committee analyzed last year's office referral data and decided to focus our efforts this year on teamwork in an effort to decrease office referrals from the playground area.
Finally, we want to thank you all for your assistance in our POP Power of Purpose fundraiser. The fundraiser will help us to purchase a shade for our elementary playground, as well as conduct our end-of-the-year literacy and math award events. We greatly appreciate your help. Our online fundraiser continues through October 11th. If you are still interested in your child participating, you can get registered here: https://ps.pop4kids.org/danvillees52623

School Updates
*Just a reminder that all absences need to be reported to the main office. If you are contacting your child's teacher due to an illness or absence, please include Alice McLeland (alice.mcleland@danvillecsd.org) and Emily Enger (emily.enger@danvillecsd.org) on the email. Thank you!
*As a general reminder, please put your child's name in all coats, jackets, and sweatshirts. It is the time of year when the students start their day with coats/jackets, but often shed them during recess, causing a pile of items on the lost and found table.
*For the safety of all students in our pick up/drop off lanes, if an adult needs to exit the car to assist a child to get in or out, please park in a parking space in the elementary lot. We ask adults to not get out of the vehicle at any time if you are using the pick up/drop off lane. Thank you for your cooperation!
*As a general rule, all students should be working to earn 2 steps in their Reading Logs nightly.
*Parent/Teacher conferences are rapidly approaching. Watch your child's backpack for scheduling information.

Welcome Aboard!
Jessica Johnson is our new Elementary Social Worker at Danville Elementary. Jessica is originally from Burlington, Iowa. Ms. Johnson graduated from the University of Iowa with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In addition, she holds a Master's degree in Social Work with a specialization in School Social Work from St. Ambrose University. Ms. Johnson previously worked as a behavior consultant for the Great Prairie Area Education Agency. In that role, she served Danville Elementary, working with some of the students and staff. It was enough to make her want to join us full time! When asked about coming to Danville Elementary, she stated "I am so excited to work with students directly and get to know Danville families in a new capacity, and to be a part of such a highly-skilled team of educators". Outside of school, Ms. Johnson enjoys hiking, fishing, and spending time with her family. Welcome aboard Ms. Johnson!
Kennedy Schuff is one of our new Elementary Paraeducators. Kennedy is a Danville High School graduate and has attended Southeastern Community College in Burlington, and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Previous to working at Danville Elementary, Ms. Schuff worked for KinderCare Learning Center. Ms. Schuff stated "I am excited to get to work with some of the same teachers I had in elementary school. I am excited for the year and what the future holds for all the kids here at Danville!" In her free time, Ms. Schuff enjoys reading, singing, acting, and spending time with her siblings, parents, and pets. We are thrilled to have you with us Ms. Schuff!
Brock Schneden is a new Elementary and Junior High Special Education Teacher in the district. Mr. Schneden is a graduate of Burlington High School. He attended Black Hawk College and Loras College, where he studied Elementary Education and Special Education. Brock also played baseball in college. Previous to coming to Danville, Mr. Schneden taught in the Burlington CSD for 12 years. When asked about what he has learned about Danville already, Mr. Schneden stated "the people that work and live here take a lot of pride in their school. I feel like that's something that also resonates with the students that walk through our doors. You can feel a sense of community in the school setting, and the kids seem to be willing to step up to challenges and expectations that are set by their teachers. Even though it's been a short amount of time, I have really enjoyed it so far and I am looking forward to the rest of the school year!". In his free time, Mr. Schneden enjoys spending time with his family, watching the Hawkeyes, the Bears and the Cubs, and traveling to his daughters' many sports activities. Welcome to Danville, Mr. Schneden!
