2021 Traveling Road Show
The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition, Nebraska Extension, and Nebraska Environmental Trust will be hosting the 2021 Traveling Road Show in November at 8 Nebraska locations in 4 days. The featured speakers will be Joshua and Tara Dukart of Seek First Ranch in western North Dakota.
Josh and Tara believe ranchers, farmers, and other ag professionals have a unique ability to simultaneously and synergistically regenerate soils, build healthy profits, and achieve their desired quality of life and relationships. Whether you are currently in a season of balance or unbalance, crisis or calm, we invite you to join us to hear this dynamic couple. Their goal is to connect you with community and to equip you with tangible ways to live and ranch with intention.
For the southwest region, the Traveling Road Show will be hosted at the NCTA Education Center in Curtis, NE on Wednesday, November 10 from 4:45 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. CST.
To pre-register, contact the Furnas County Extension office at (308) 268-3105 or email erin.laborie@unl.edu.
There is a $20 registration fee payable at the door. Students and local FFA chapters are free and are encouraged to attend. A meal will be provided, so please pre-register by November 2 to the UNL Extension office where you plan to attend. For a complete list of locations or more information, contact NGLC Coordinator, Ron Bolze, at (402) 321-0067 or ron@nebraskagrazinglands.org.
Cow-Calf Management with Limited Perennial Acres
Managing cow-calf pairs with limited perennial acres will be the topic of discussion at the Alma Country Club in Alma, Nebraska on December 6. Drought is a reoccurring plight that frequently reduces perennial forages available for grazing while conversion of pasture ground to crop ground continues to reduce available pasturelands. Increasing costs of production and high taxes make diversifying income and increasing the use of land necessary to get the most out of every acre.
This workshop will cover topics related to managing production cows in confinement such as managing cows with limited distillers, lessons learned on mineral needs of the confined cow, management strategies for the nursing calf raised in confinement, and health observations in the confined production cow herd. In addition to presentations on these topics, producers will have the opportunity to ask questions followed by open discussions in a bullpen session at the end of the evening.
Pre-registration by November 24th is requested for an accurate meal count. Contact the Harlan County Extension office at 308-928-2119 or email Erin Laborie at erin.laborie@unl.edu to pre-register. Sponsors making this program possible include the Furnas County Livestock Association and the Harlan County Cattlemen.
