U School REPPIN At EDUCON
Our 9th and 10th grade students (David A, Jonathan G, Brittiny S, Ly'Jhia S, Mark K Diamond T, and Jalil C) did an awesome job as presenters and ambassadors for U School in front of national audience of educators at EDUCON conference this weekend. Students shared their stories, ethnographic research in progress, participated in conversations and other conference workshop. Way to REP the U School!
Our Core Value for the month of February is Responsibility - the opportunity or ability to act independently and make decisions without authorization.
Students should make sure you are responsible with your time. Use time wisely during check-ins, tune-ups, mini-lessons, and on demand assessments to prepare for greatness.
Below is important news you can use.
Wraping Up Your Myths
Students should be wrapping up all the amazing myths and stories.
Before you submit your best draft of your myth we need to see evidence that you received and incorporated feedback from your peers. We will not give you formal feedback on your myth until we see that you got feedback from your peers.
MEGA shout-out to Diamond T, whose narrative (myth)is up for consideration for the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest..
Goal Setting - Be Responsible with your time.
Most students who are consistently setting goals on a weekly basis, are the students who are making the most progress.
While most students who are consistently not setting goals, are off track.
Furthermore, the students who are doing work (homework) out side of class are, the students who are ahead in their progress reports.
Value your time! It is one of the most important things of value that you control at the U School. Don't forgot to complete your DAP.

Samuel Reed Then & Now
I teach my students at the U School to read write and make -sense of the world-. My passions include arts in education, media literacy and understanding youth culture. I blog for the ‘Philadelphia Public School Notebook’ and published an article titled, ‘Connected Learning and the Rules of Engagement’ for ‘Heinemann’s Digital Campus’. I organize Boys.Write.Now and Girls.On.Fire, Art and Writing Workshops, and I organized a 2013 Cardboard Challenge in Philadelphia. I have been fortunate to live and travel abroad to such places as Botswana, Kenya and Russia.
Charles McGeehan Then & Now
I've been teaching in Philadelphia since 2010, and I have worked at 5 different schools, both charter and public. I am so excited to be at a place like The U School, where I see myself working for many years to come.
I grew up in Media, Pennsylvania, about 15 miles from our school. Both of my parents were teachers for many years - but I didn't always know I would follow in their footsteps. I grew up loving sports, and going to lots of high school, college, and professional games with my Dad. I went to UNC-Chapel Hill, and spent a lot of my time going to basketball games.
Rebecca Coven Then & Now
Ms Coven was assigned to another high school as a part of her student teaching responsibilities at the University of Pennsylvania .
Join me us in thanking her for her dedication and time spent at the U School. She wrote each and every 10th grader a special good bye card.
Ms Coven please keep in touch with us.
We are going to miss you!
