Charles Hay World School IB
WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
Parents’ Place for Palermo’s Updates
Hey Hay Families,
Another great week of school! Remember that this weekend is a holiday weekend. There is no school on Monday.
Reminders... Students need to have masks at school. Remember to send your child/ren to school with a mask. We have extras if needed, but our supply is limited.
Last year, as a means to bring what is happening in school to parents, we re-engaged our Twitter account. We use Twitter to frequently celebrate student experience, send out reminders of upcoming events, and share instructional practice utilized by CHWS staff. You can follow @CharlesHayIB on Twitter for more frequent updates.
The SAC committee will provide building level direction specific to budgeting, instruction, and parent involvement. We currently have Kindergarten-5th Grade parent representation. Ideally, we would get at least one more parent of a 6th Grader to join. There are no limits to participation, so if you wish to join us in future meetings send me an email or just drop in. We are working on providing childcare. All meetings will be accessible both in-person or via zoom. The SAC Committee meeting dates (All meetings will run 4:30pm-5:30pm):
- Thursday, September 23rd
- Thursday, October 28th
- Thursday, December 16th
- Thursday, January 27th
- Thursday, February 24th
- Thursday, April 28th
Back to School Night
Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 8th 4:30pm-5:30pm. There will be 3 different 20 min. meetings to accomodate families to multiple children at Hay. Back to School Night will be on Zoom. Your child/ren's teacher will send you a zoom link for the night.
Parent Involvement
We are not quite prepared for in-person volunteers during school hours. However, we are in need of library volunteers after school that can help reshelve books for 20-30 min. If you are interested in helping in our library, send me an email.

Free and Reduced Application- Apply Online
Although school meals are free for the 21/22 school year, it is still extremely important to fill out the Free or Reduced –Price Meals Application. By filling out the application you may be eligible for the district to waive fees (technology, athletic, registration, transportation and more) that you may otherwise be required to pay. Changes to COVID Protocols
Updated Mask Guidance & COVID Protocols
UPDATED ON AUGUST 4, 2021
Dear Englewood Schools Community,
We are very excited to be welcoming students into our schools in just a few short weeks! As we prepare for the start of the school year, we have been monitoring the changing health conditions in the community and having discussions with our partners at Tri-County Health regarding the best way to keep students and staff healthy and safe as well as provide an optimal in-person learning environment.
What we know about COVID-19 is that a layered approach to safety is one that keeps staff and students healthy and in school learning. Based on current conditions, and subject to change as conditions change, Englewood Schools will have the following protocols in place for the 2021-2022 school year:
MASK REQUIREMENTS FOR THE START OF SCHOOL
- Masks will be required for all students, visitors and staff while inside all Englewood schools, regardless of vaccination status.
- Masks will not be required outside, since the risk of COVID transmission is significantly lower outdoors.
- Per federal law, all bus riders must wear masks while being transported on school buses. Buses are considered public transportation.
The latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and endorsed by TriCounty Health is for universal masking.

Wellness Committee
What is it: The Wellness Committee works to create and plan new events, and initiatives that are wellness-related at CHWS. The impact is felt by staff, students, and community. We utilize our knowledge, connections, and passions to collaborate on these causes. Staff, administrators, parents, and community members have all served on the committee.
Some events and initiatives we have spearheaded: The Harvest Fest, Stay and Play, after school clubs, Cougar Palooza, food waste, allergies, staff wellness challenges, fundraising to offset school lunch debt, etc.
How you can help: attend our monthly, 1-hour long meetings to share your passion, collaboration, community connections, ideas. If you can't attend the meetings, you can still contribute!
Interested?: Email Kelly Wilbert (PE teacher) at Kelly_Wilbert@engschools.net and let her know you're interested. She'll take it from there!
