The meeting was hosted by the Jackson Area Career Center and began at 5:30 p.m. with the Presentation of the Colors by the JROTC Golden Knight Color Guard.
Jackson Area Career Center Points of Pride
The October meeting, hosted by the Career Center, is one of the gatherings everyone looks forward to. It is a celebration of students, staff, and community. The evening began strong with reports from two featured Career Center programs, Agriscience and Army JROTC.
Agriscience
Agriscience and FFA instructor, Jason Gehrke, was present to share the news about the many good works and successes of the program from this past year.
The annual Plant Sale was the largest and best attended in event history. More money was raised than at any previous sale; so much so, $6,500 was able to be dedicated to graduating senior scholarships. Additionally, student-raised plants and labor contributed to some major community gardening and landscaping projects, like the downtown planters, Jackson County fair grounds, and the Ella Sharp Park plantings.
The livestock and FFA aspect of the Agriscience program, again this past year, had a tremendous showing at the Jackson County Fair, with a few categories being dominated. This is especially noteworthy when considering the students were competing with their animals and showmanship against some of the areas largest and best dairies and breeders.

Army JROTC
Instructors of the Army JROTC Golden Knight battalion, USA Army (Ret.) Michael Nichols and Michael Monroe, led the commissioning of officers ceremony. The swearing-in was preceeded with a brief overview of battalion news and accomplishments. So far this year, the Raider team placed 1st and 2nd at the recent, annual State Raider Competition, and cadets have volunteered over 200-hours in community service. The Golden Knights participated in projects like the Grand River clean-up, Civil War Muster, and Thompkins Center Freedom Festival.
Watch along below, to the commissioning swearing-in; it's always moving, and a proud moment. This year's cadre was exceptional in their presence, bearing, and confidence. Golden Knights!

All Ayes!
The tentative labor agreement with the Career Center Education Association (CCEA) was approved in a unanimous vote.
Also by unanimous vote, the board approved splitting the cost of architect services with the Jackson Area Manufacturing Association (JAMA) in order to further the study phase of the vocational training campus. The Covalle Group will be hired to perform the initial architectural concept design work at an estimated cost to the district of not more than $5,000.
