Mr. Wolk's 4th Grade - Our Featured Classroom of the Week!
Congratulations to Mrs. Stufflebean's 3rd Grade!
Learn Like a Pirate! Improvement Focus VS. Grade Focus
When students focus on scores rather then learning, extrinsic motivation drives their performance. We want to place priority on personal improvement. We know education is about the people your students will grow into. Our goal is to help our students to understand the value of hard work, and to develop a love for learning.
We do this by providing critical feedback to our students and allowing them to work cooperatively with their peers to solve problems. We constantly observe our students actions and choices, providing guidance and feedback based on those observations. This individualizes instruction for each student. We provide opportunities for students to find rigor in their everyday work. We strive to improve independent thinking and collaboration. Improvement focused learning challenges students to constantly strive to be their best!

Running Club will begin Tuesday, August 30th! open to students in grades 2-5
Montgomery City Elementary School (MCE) will be hosting an after school program for students in grades 2-5 to encourage students to live a more active lifestyle! Your child is cordially invited to participate in the MCE Wildcats on the Prowl Running Club! This program will meet on Tuesdays afterschool at MCE. Students will be participating in stretching, running based activities, and running from 3:45-4:30 p.m. The program will begin on Tuesday, August 30th.
We will encourage all of our Wildcats on the Prowl Running Club members to participate in the Go St. Louis! Read, Right & Run Program. During the MCE running program, students will be challenged to complete weekly activities to encourage good character and to increase their activity levels. This year our running club will be participating in a program through “Just Run.” Students will be encouraged to keep a running log outside of school and we will track how quickly we can run from coast to coast as a team! Those miles add up quickly! By granting permission for your child to participate in the program, you are assuring Montgomery City Elementary School that your child is healthy and able to safely participate in an activity based program and that a parent will be available to pick your student up promptly each Tuesday that school is in session and that the program is operating. Students in the program should wear comfortable attire and tennis shoes each Tuesday. Additionally your child should bring a water bottle to the Wildcats on the Prowl sessions.
While we know our K & 1st grade students may be disappointed, supervision and safety are our #1 concern. The popularity of the program has grown, and supervision is provided by volunteer staff members each week. Therefore we have to limit the grade levels that may participate, so we can ensure proper supervision. Our K & 1st grade students will have something to look forward to when they enter 2nd grade.
To participate on Tuesday, August 30th the permission slip sent home in Friday Folders must be returned by August 24th.
Go! St. Louis Read, Right, Run - Open to Students K-5
Dear Parents:
Your child’s school is participating in the GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® program and your child has expressed interest in joining. Last year 10,000 students participated from more than 200 schools in the bi-state area to complete this unique program.
The GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® combines three important components of education, community service and wellness to give students a fun and challenging way to accomplish a goal. During this program, your child will:
- READ 26 books
- RIGHT the community by doing 26 good deeds/acts of service
- RUN 26.2 miles individually to add up to a full MARATHON by April 8,2017!
As a GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® participant, your child will:
- Meet at certain times with their school Read, Right & Run Marathon group to work together on parts of the program.
- Receive a journal to record each book, mile, and deed (fun activities included, too!)
- Participate in the final event on April 8, 2017 in Forest Park, where each student runs the last 1.2 miles of the marathon. Each student receives a race bib number, t-shirt and, upon crossing the finish line, a finisher’s medal!
Please direct any questions to Della Bell-Freeman (dbell@mc-wildcats.org) or Jeania Burton (jburton@mc-wildcats.org). For more information on this nationally recognized youth program, visit http://gostlouis.org/community/read-right-run-marathon/. Your child may participate in Read, Right & Run regardless of participation in Running Club, so K and Grade 1 students may join this program. There is a fee for participation, and this covers the cost for the event on April 8, 2017. Students not in the free and reduced lunch program should pay $20 and students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program should pay $8. Registration forms will be available after Sept. 15th.
We hope you will consider having your child participate in this annual event. It is a wonderful way for your child to experience the excitement and pride of reaching long-term goals!
Sincerely,
GO! St. Louis

Phone calls to change transportation routes are for Emergencies Only
If you need to make a change to your child’s normal routine you must send a note with your child in the morning. If it is an emergency, you must call and speak to a secretary before 2pm. Do not leave a message on the school answering service. The answering service is to report absences only, and it is not checked throughout the day.
We will not make any changes after 2pm. Our goal is to get every student safely to their correct destination at the end of each day. We need your help to make sure this happens.
