Band Receives a Superior Rating
The combined 8th and 7th grade bands recently participated in the South Carolina Band Director's Association Concert Performance Assessment on Thursday March 28th at Liberty High School. The band received the highest rating of a Superior, missing a perfect score of 25 by one point!
The event consists of performing three concert selections for one set of judges as well as a sight reading selection for another set of judges. The band received four Superior ratings and one Excellent rating by the judges, who complimented the band's playing as "very musical" and having a "warm, full band tone." One judge wrote, "a lot of musical positives happening with this band." The band's warm up was "Imperium" by Michael Sweeney, and the concert selections were "The Red Balloon" by Anne McGinty and "Black Forest Overture" by Michael Sweeney.
Congratulations to all of the band members who were "instrumental" in making this event a success with a lot of patience and hard work!

Cafeteria Creates New Salad Options
Southwood Academy's cafeteria is offering some new salad options! The flavor choices are buffalo chicken, crispy chicken, or southwest chicken. Due to limited space on our serving line, the cafeteria staff will choose one new salad flavor per week to feature. These salads are $2.35 for students, $3.70 for faculty and staff, and $4.00 for visiting adults.

Very Important Information for 6th Grade Parents & Students
From Nurse Rosa: If you know that your child has had the Tdap vaccine that is required for attendance in 7th grade, please call your pediatrician/family doctor and have them fax an updated and complete immunization record to 864-332-5329. Nurse Rosa has very few forms with the Tdap recorded on them.
If you are unsure, please contact your doctor and make an appointment! Please do this as soon as possible to avoid any problems regarding school entrance next year. DHEC does consider this a “suspension” if you miss school days due to not having the vaccine. You will not be able to start or attend school for the 7th grade year until this vaccine is completed.

April Fools' Day
In modern times, people have gone to great lengths to create elaborate April Fools’ Day jokes. Newspapers, radio, TV stations, and Web sites have participated in the April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled their audiences. These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person. Today people do jokes like a snake in a can of nuts and use food dye to harass their fellow family and friends.
