Welcome May
As it fell upon a day
In the merry month of May,
Sitting in a pleasant shade
Which a grove of myrtles made.

Happy May Day
Happy Mothers Day
Memorial Day-
Remembering those who courageously gave their lives
Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change.
- Stephen Covey
A green feather that turns blue is a grace feather. Its colors shift from green to blue, like the sea. It means remembrance. It shows that no distance, no amount of water between two people, will make them forget. Someone gave it to say they remember you.
“When angels visit us, we do not hear the rustle of wings, nor feel the feathery touch of the breast of a dove; but we know their presence by the love they create in our hearts.”
Mother's Day
A Mother is a whole universe for her children without whose presence their survival becomes a matter of question. She protects them from the atrocities of the outside world while giving them a peaceful, safe, and lively environment at home. A word of ‘Thanks’ to the mothers is never sufficient for their inevitable and unconditional love and support. Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 9th this year, is a remarkable occasion to let her know how special she is and without whom home is just another place to stay in. So, this Mother’s Day, express your love, admiration, and care to her in your own magnificent way.
I recently came across a letter that my husband wrote in his journal regarding Mother's Day. However it wasn't to his Mother but rather my Mother. I wanted to share it with you during this beautiful month of May in which we celebrate Mother’s Day. He is always texting my Mother or reminding us to call her throughout the year. When she comes to visit, many times, it is the two of them heading out to lunch together or sitting on the back porch discussing the garden or some other project going on in their lives. I am so proud to have the two of them in my life.
Dearest Oma, (As she is known to the family)
There are so many things that are never said between a Mother-In-Law and her Son-In Law.
I am not sure why, maybe we become somewhat introverts with our in-laws, but I have to say I am most thankful for mine. I think that is the thing with super women. We just assume that they know how extraordinary their superpowers are that we forget to voice them out loud. We forget that everyone needs to have their cup refilled. I think it is beyond time that I expressed my gratitude out loud for the way you love out loud. There are not enough words or pages for all the things so here are just a few.
Your love for my son. You say yes to him and have dedicated entire days to the word yes. He knows Oma is synonymous with laughter and play and all that is important in childhood. And, now as a young teen. Whenever I am in doubt about the right decision of how to handle a situation with my child I often times ask myself “what would Oma do”? That seems to find a way to bring me to the right path; the happier path; the path of yes.
Your love you have always shown me. You have always loved me like I was one of your own children which makes me feel like one of the luckiest people in the world. You have been a therapist, a friend and yes, a mother. I know deep in my heart I have not thanked you enough because I am not always the best at saying thank you, but I know your generosity is lined in it all. I myself am stitched together by flaws laced in hopeful intentions but you never point them out. You never make me feel like not enough but instead like I am a light, and I am not alone. You have an understated way of making everyone feel like they have gifts in this world that need to be shined for all to see. You see all our son’s strengths, and all of his gifts. Not to say that he does not have faults, of course he does, but what a hopeful world it is to look for the good. That in itself is a gift of yours. It is not a slight thing to be able to see everyone’s light.
The love that is food. There isn’t a situation in life that couldn’t be improved by a glass of Riesling or Champaign. You are a brilliant, bountiful, and beautiful chef. When I speak of Jambalaya and Gumbo it is just not any Jambalaya or Gumbo but Oma’s Jambalaya and Gumbo. And the Peach Cobbler that you have in the oven, makes waiting for dessert so difficult. It has always amazed me how you get everyone gathered in the kitchen with 10 different conversations being spoken but somehow you are in tune with everyone of them.
You gave me your son. He is of course both of ours, for better or worse. The first time he took me home to meet you, you graciously handed him to me with love. You handed him to me with hope. He will always be one of the best people I will ever meet in this world and that is to your credit. He is a strong man, and he was raised by a strong woman. I am in awe of the tenacity in your strength and love and am grateful that you have encouraged us to pass that along in our lives.
And then there is you. Resilience personified. You take nothing lying down and you take it with a smile. You find humor in what others would hide from. You bring laughter with a side of Peach Cobbler. A straightforward talk with a glass of wine. Strength with spirit. You do not let things break you. You simply, overcome.
I hope one day when my son gets married, and I become a Father-in-Law that I do half as good a job as what you have done for me as a Mother-in-Law. That would be the ultimate success. I know I never have called you Mom but that doesn’t mean that I would ever consider you as anything else. The day I met your son was the day I gained a wonderful Mother-in-Law. I am so thankful to have you in my life.
Happy Mother’s Day
Love,
Your Son-in-Law
Family,
Oooh, I do love our area of the world. The earth laughs in flowers. How wonderful is that. Here in the Piedmont region Mother Nature has certainly had a few chuckles at our expense. We have had warm spring like weather one day with at freezing temperatures the next. It is nice to be venturing out, into the warmer temperatures and fresh air when we get those days. We started a garden inside and over Easter week we moved them into outside pots. It is so rewarding to get outside and see the first blooms of spring. We planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, grapevines, blackberries, and cilantro. We also planted impatiens, snapdragons, begonias, and marigolds. That is along with the pansies, camelia bush, heather and lavender that was already planted.
The vaccine appears to be rolling out in our area with many already vaccinated. Our hopes are that everyone that wants to be vaccinated can get it done quickly and without any aftereffects of feeling ill.
Easter week was very relaxing as we stayed home again this year. We managed to take it easy and take only a few road trips during the week. There is something to be said in taking a road trip and ending up back in your own bed that night.
Our son worked hard over the past school quarter and ended with a great report card. We gave him a gift card for his Xbox and lunch at his choice of restaurant. Hard to believe the school year is almost over. Hard to believe our son is fourteen. Where has the time gone.
We got hooked on The Crown and binge watched all the episodes in only a couple days. As a country nearly 250 years ago we rejected King George III but our fascination has never quite gone away.
A visit to the pain specialist to control the pain regarding my sciatic nerve was necessary over the past month. I have had issues for many years with recurring pain. Fingers crossed this will pass quickly.
And on that note, I leave you to your May, my friends. Be safe. Be well.
With Love,
Did you know that in any given year, no month ever begins or ends on the same day of the week as May does.
May 1st is May Day. This day marks the return of spring by bringing in branches of forsythia, lilacs, or other flowering shrubs from your region.

May 5th is Cinco de Mayo.
May 9th is Mother’s Day, don’t forget!

May 31st is Memorial Day, a poignant reminder of the tenacity of life.
Here are some other fun things celebrated during the month of May. Mother Goose Day, Law Day, Make a Book Day, World Laughter Day.
May’s birthstone is the emerald which is emblematic of love and success.
May’s full Moon is the Flower Moon. Full Moon will occur on Wednesday, May 26th. It will reach peak illumination at 7:14AM that morning. It will be the 2nd of two supermoons this year. It is called the Flower Moon because it rises when flowers are beginning to bloom and blossom.

Tarot of the Month
Ed,
The month of May's energy can make you feel restless and ready to tap into your intellectual side. Now is the time to honor the mind and the raw energy of movement. Try to enjoy being human and get outside. Read books. The three cards pulled are for the 31 days. The first card being the first ten days, the second card being the next ten days, and the last card being the remaining eleven days. (Cards are Faerie Tarot by Nathalie Hertz)
1st Card: Two of Cups:
Standing on a flowered balcony, this young fairy talking to the birds represents osmosis, respect, and harmony with the surroundings. The stars are symbols of bonds and communion. All three figures—the two birds and the fairy—connote the triumph of the heart and deep love. Divinatory meaning: A lasting love, a wedding. A new relation-ship, reciprocal attraction and passion. Engagement, union, understanding, and harmony. A sincere friendship. A reconciliation, a found love, and artistic success. Dissatisfaction in love, false and shallow love, strictly physical attraction. Disillusion in love or friendship, betrayal, and opposition. Jealousy and vain hopes.
2nd Card: The Fool:
Usually designated with the numeral 0, The Fool card represents both the beginning and the end. A small impish fairy, full of innocence and joy, walks among the branches on an eternal journey toward the truth. With the heart of a child and great sensitivity, the Fool’s companions are small animals like this garden dormouse. This imp is free of all ties with others. To some, the Fool seems insane; to others he is the master of his own destiny. In the tarot, the Fool speaks neither about failure, nor of success. Divinatory meaning: A sudden departure, unforeseen events, chance. Unconcern, inner personal evolution, new experiments, the unknown, adventure, spontaneity, intuition, genius. Uncertainty, immaturity, escaping responsibilities, imprudence, negligence, madness, shallow promises, fraud.
3rd Card: Three of Cups:
The fairies have a rendezvous in a verdant flower garden. A baby fairy has just hatched in a flower, symbolizing revival, love and joy. The stars emerging from the three cups offer the newborn baby good fortune and well-being. The sky is mild and blue. The butter-flies represent peace and serenity. Divinatory meaning: Solved problems, satisfaction. A union, a birth, good news, serenity. Good family relations, a celebration, optimism. A plan comes to fruition. Relief after sorrow, unfulfilled plans, a delay. Excessive feasting and pleasures. It is time to get back to serious and constructive matters.
Questions and Counsel
Dear Katelyn,
Hello,
I think I’m crazy. There is this person I know I have a connection with but they don’t see it. I am trying so hard to get over them but can’t. I don’t know what to do.
Hi Friend!
I’ve had to learn the hard way; you can’t get over someone while wishing they’d return. A wise soul told me, “when it’s time to move on from someone you don’t have to try, it just happens.”
This is the best advice I have - let the Universe play it out & take this time to really learn yourself and what it means to be in control of your thoughts.
In the Spiritual community it isn’t uncommon to hear “time isn’t real,” but for being illusionary, it really has a way of working out.
In light, love, and in time,
Katelyn

Finding Wonder In The World
“Art helps us flex our imaginations and find a ‘flow’ for our experiences.”
“Imagination invites us to breathe, to dream, and to be fully present to the wonder of it all.”
Sometimes it seems as if we have forgotten how to imagine. We’ve forgotten that the world is a magical and miraculous place. At a certain point, life became serious, bogged down with tasks and to-do lists. And this mindset began to impact the most personal parts of my life, including spirituality.
But what if spirituality isn’t always about rumination or taking on a serious posture while contemplating the deeper questions? In the religious teachings of my youth, there is a parable about childlike faith, and the story encourages humility and wonder rather than piety or intellect. It also encourages asking questions without needing definitive answers.
Children are excellent teachers for this. They’re always wondering about the world: Why is the sky blue? Why do lions roar? What makes the earth spin? An imaginative spirit keeps them open to possibilities and grounds them in the present moment. Is it possible to find that once again?
Imagination invites us to breathe, to dream, and to be fully present to the wonder of it all. It can even become a spiritual practice of its own—but we have to choose it.
You don’t need to be religious or subscribe to a higher power, either. I no longer practice the traditions I grew up with, but spirituality remains a part of my life through mindfulness, prayer, and rituals. Even if the word spirituality scares you or feels a bit woo, remember that anyone can benefit from wonder and imagination, and spirituality is entirely personal and unique to you.
If you're reconstructing a spiritual practice as an adult or exploring it for the first time, here are a few tips for creating a non-religious spiritual practice.
1. READ CHILDREN’S BOOKS
Spirituality can sometimes feel inaccessible and high brow, especially in literature. I’ve purchased countless spirituality books only to find them ridden with archaic and pretentious language. (Which truly does little for sparking my imagination.)
Children’s books, however, are lighthearted and playful. They invite us to return to our inner child by offering simple, encouraging messages about wonder, play, love, and mindful living. The books don’t have to be about spirituality, either.
2. RECORD YOUR DREAMS
Humans have always been fascinated by dreams and the stories we create while we’re asleep—in fact, one of the first recorded dream interpretations dates back to Mesopotamia. In many ancient traditions, dreams were even believed to be prophesies from God, and I like to think they can be potential portals to a spiritual world.
“What is your imagination telling you as you sleep?”
Try keeping a dream journal to reflect on the stories, imagery, or themes. Use this journal as a source for creativity and consider drawing or painting your dreams, or writing them into a song or story. And how can you apply that same wonder to your everyday life and spiritual practice?
3. EXPLORE ART MEDIUMS
Art helps us flex our imaginations and find a “flow” for our experiences. That flow is that sense of losing yourself, losing all awareness. You're so in the moment and fully present that you forget all sense of time and space.”
It can be any kind of art, too—from painting to weaving to pottery. Anyone can try art—and no matter what your skill level, it's something you should try to do on a regular basis.
4. GET OUTSIDE AND EXPLORE
Does the world feel predictable to you right now? Especially this year, as we’ve spent most of our time indoors, everything can start seeming familiar. Bland, even.
Extensive travel isn’t an option at the moment, but we can find inspiration when we get outside and explore our own cities. As I leave my home either by car or simply a walk around my neighborhood, I remember how vibrant and surprising the world can be. This wonder keeps me curious and open to possibilities. It also helps me feel more connected to the world, and in turn, to myself and my spiritual beliefs.
“The world is grand and beautiful; if only we’ll look up and see it.”
The next time you leave your home, consider taking an unfamiliar walking route and try a walking meditation. Eat at a new restaurant on the other end of town or lounge in a park that isn’t your usual hang-out. Pay attention to the streets, the landscapes, and the unfamiliar faces. Bring a notebook if it helps you to record your thoughts and observations. The world is grand and beautiful; if only we’ll look up and see it. Wherever you go on your spiritual journey, I hope you embrace wonder and seek out the magic happening all around us. Rekindle your childlike spirit, ask questions without needing answers, and balance rumination with play. And then, turn that magic inward. Nurture your soul with imaginative and creative practices—you might just find deeper meaning and purpose.
