Principal's Bulletin
Week 5: September 21-25, 2020
We are excited to welcome back our next group of in person learners on Monday, September 21st. If your child is eligible to return to school on Monday, you would have received a call from this week. For everyone's safety and well being, please do not bring your child to school on Monday unless you received a call from me. We thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Peace, Love, and Eagles,

Will My Child Be Safe at School?
Who Is Next to Return?
The next group consists of students in grades 2-5 who selected IN PERSON instruction and are considered academically At Risk according to certain criteria. Those criteria include, but are not limited to, students with IEPs that support learning disabilities, those with 504 plans that support academic, behavior, or severe medical needs, students who are receiving Tier 2 or 3 interventions in RtI, or those unable to engage virtually due to circumstances beyond their control. These students may be invited to return as early as September 28th. For students in grades 2-5, priority will be given to students who meet multiple criteria listed in the above paragraph and classes will still adhere to the 10:1 ratio.
I will be calling parents this week to confirm IN PERSON attendance and discuss after school transportation and after school care.

Families may change selected learning model for 2nd grading period
Beginning Wed., Sept. 23, families who would like to change their selection of instructional learning model (in-person or virtual learning) for the second grading cycle (Oct. 19-Dec. 18) may do so by completing an online questionnaire that will be published on our website and on our social media platforms next week.
Families will have until Sept. 30 to submit their change. Only families wishing to change their current learning model selection need to complete the online questionnaire.
Families are reminded that a selection of virtual learning for the second grading period means a commitment to remain in that learning model for the complete grading period.
For more information regarding the instructional learning options and commitments for both, please visit our Back to School webpage.
Parent Schoology Accounts
Today, Friday, Sept. 18, your child will receive an email in their NISD Gmail account. It will contain your student's access code and the instructions for how to create an account. If you do not get the email, you can also contact your student's teacher for the code. If you have already created an account at Schoology.com, you will need to use a new email address to create your parent account.
The following links will be provided in the email sent to your student. Feel free to view them and see how easy it is to create a Schoology parent account.

What Will Classes Look Like?
Classes will be built at a ratio of 10 students to 1 teacher. In order to ensure this ratio and accommodate teachers who have been medically certified to work at home, some students may need to be temporarily placed in another classroom.
In this new model, teachers will be providing both in person and virtual instruction. The schedule students have been following will remain mostly the same. Small changes may be necessary in order to accommodate in person lunch times and shortened office hours due to supervision of students. Students who are continuing to learn virtually will follow their regular schedule.
