President, Kris Schuler, Nu:
Greetings Sisters!
Happy March! Can you believe we have had a complete calendar year of this "new normal?" I am so thrilled that many of us are getting vaccines and things are starting to open up again. I look forward to resuming our strong sisterhood and enjoying each other's company!
Please let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kris Schuler and I am so excited to be part of the KC Alumnae Chapter! I am originally from Nu Chapter in Warrensburg, MO and I'm currently one of the advisors there. My daughter, Kate, is a Tri Sigma in her Senior year so I get to see her when I attend meetings! It's a win-win! Currently, I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Missouri. I was an elementary teacher for 24 years and now teach upcoming teachers how to teach! I live with my college sweetheart, Kurt, in Raymore, MO. What I want you to know about me is that being the president of this alumnae chapter is one of the highlights of my life. I cannot wait to get started!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rebecca Hammontree for her hard work with the board. I appreciate her dedication and commitment to sisterhood. I know it could not have been an easy task during Covid-19 and shutdowns. But hopefully, we will start to see Covid improvement in the upcoming months and we will be able to see each others' sweet faces! So, thank you Rebecca for all you've done for us during this unprecedented time!
You will also find that we have a new Vice-President on board. I look forward to working with Cindy Rathke in the upcoming term. I know this is a big commitment and I appreciate her taking time to help us with our sisterhood! Please join me in thanking Kat Hartwig for her time on the board. Once again, it was a tough time to be in charge of activities when we couldn't get together! Thank you Kat and welcome Cindy!
Our executive board has met and we hope to create a long-range plan of activities, philanthropy, and sisterhoods for us to reunite. We will make sure we have a mixture of face-to-face and virtual events so don't worry! If you have ideas, please let me know. I cannot wait to get back into the swing of getting together for laughter and Sigma Love!
SLAM!
Kris

Vice Presidents, Cindy Rathke, Nu:
2021 is here! We are gearing up for a great year of sisterhood and companionship.
We know that you are still practicing safety. Please know that everything we are planning is with safety in mind. We will always wear masks and if possible, we will be outside until this epidemic has passed.
At the Founder's Day celebration, which is both face-to-face with masks AND on Zoom, we will be sharing a long-range plan of activities for the upcoming year. Please look for that in April's newsletter.
Below, you will find some of the activities we have planned. Of course, everything is subject to change!! Fingers crossed!
We have a whole year of activities planned from sisterhoods to philanthropies to parties!
Get ready to bond! It's going to be a great year!
-Cindy

Book Club - Ilene Ginardi Burns, CHI:
At Book Club today, 8 Sigmas discussed WHISTLING PAST THE GRAVEYARD, by Susan Crandall. We are getting good about doing Zoom calls! Who said that older people can’t learn this new technology! 😜
Carol Phillips lead the discussion. Carolyn Austin joined in a little late after this picture was taken. Sorry Carolyn.
The book for the March meeting will be THE EXILES by Christina Baker Kline. It takes place during the 1840s in England and relocates to “the land beyond the seas,” in Australia. Carole Gurley will be leading the discussion of this fascinating book.
Sigma Book Club will meet on March 31 at 9:30am on Zoom.
We hope you can join us then!
