Spreading the Love

February 7, 2019

A Full February

February is pretty jam-packed here at LHS. First, you'll notice our main hallway slowly transforming as we partake in a month-long observance and celebration of history-making African American contributors, past and present, which will culminate in our Black History Celebration at the end of the month. February is also host to our Winter Spirit Week and pep rally, the Winter Ball, and our annual Open House for incoming Cardinals!

Happy Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we'd like to remind our entire Cardinal community to show your love and appreciation for all of your loved ones -- sweethearts, parents, friends, siblings, friends, coworkers, friends, even pets -- not just today, but every day!

School Rules Reminder

Good afternoon - as we pass the halfway mark of the school year, we would like to remind students of a few school rules.

  • Students are not permitted to wear or carry head coverings that include: hats, bandanas, do-rag, or the hood of sweatshirt during the school day as per the student handbook (pages 24-25). Beginning tomorrow, all head coverings including hats worn inside the building will be confiscated and placed in Room 319 for parent pickup.
  • Students must have a green hall pass when they leave class to go to places like the lavatory, nurse, guidance, or the library. Students will be sent back to class if found in the hallway without a green pass.

Senior Zoe Singleton, member of LHS DECA, has been selected to present her business plan titled “MAKEUP the TIME” at #LEADLIKEAGIRL: A Conference for Risk-Takers and Changemakers! The conference, to be held in April, is an all-day event on the campus of Stuart Country Day School, and is designed to showcase and inspire girls’ confidence and creativity in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), entrepreneurism, and leadership.

The #LEADLIKEAGIRL Business Fair is an opportunity for high school girls to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and business acumen through a business plan of their own design. Students will present their developed good or service to a panel of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and a participating audience, in a competition for three cash prizes, awarded to the business plans that are deemed most innovative and profitable.

Students will showcase their business plans alongside experienced mentor women who own businesses at the Business Fair and Expo. Young women in high school who are presenting STEM talks or business plans are eligible to win cash prizes totaling $10,000.

Workshops and presentations will be delivered by young women in high school, educators, and leading women in business.
