A MESSAGE FROM MR. FINKLE
Autumn is in the air! Congratulations to all DHS students for another wonderful and memorable Homecoming season. Thank you to all the parents who put very long hours into the floats and skits to make this a great experience for the students.
Yesterday, the DHS administration treated the seniors to a surprise luncheon thanking them for being terrific leaders and positive role models for the underclassmen during Spirit Week! We are very proud of them for creating a respectful atmosphere and environment for building teamwork and unity during a healthy competition! Congratulations to the Class of 2019! We are very proud of you! Please see the pictures below.
For those who are interested, we will be hosting a Homecoming Forum to discuss the positives and areas where we can improve on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6pm. I have been contacted by many interested parents who have made suggestions, and it makes more sense to get all of the leaders into the same room at the same time to discuss. This will be followed by the regularly scheduled PTA meeting at 7pm.
On Thursday, October 25th, DHS will host a College Planning Information Night at 7pm in the Media Center. All parents/guardians are invited to this important meeting.
Please be advised that the Board of Education approved a new calendar making May 31st a single-session day for the Junior-Senior Prom.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.

Red Ribbon Week
The National Family Partnership which began in 1980 and was Honorarily Chaired by Nancy Reagan, began Red Ribbon Week in response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena. Angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. The first Red Ribbon Week was held in 1988, and today, the Red Ribbon serves as a focal point in communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
This year the theme is "Life is a Journey, Travel Drug Free." Each year thousands of schools compete to have their idea and art used as a theme across the country. Here at DHS we are giving students stickers to wear throughout their day and magnets on their lockers to remind them to stick to being drug free. We want our Bear Paws to stay Drug Free.
Please speak with your students and family about the importance of staying drug free. Statistics show that a simple conversation reduces the likelihood of kids using drugs by an amazing 42%! Unfortunately, only 25% of high school students report having these conversations.
Together we can make our students aware of the dangers of drugs and keep them drug free. Happy Red Ribbon Week!
Please join us!
