As we begin implementing the use of the ACE writing strategy school wide I think it is important to understand the WHY? Why if we already have a writing strategy in our content area would we need to change? Please read the following article for a better understanding of repitition and how important it is to our students!

WICOR Recognition
We have so many AMAZING educators in our HERD. Here are a few that were recognized by their students on the AVID-acious job they do in class everyday! Click on the button above to see what students are looking for in class.
Mrs. Rosenbaum Write-Every day in class we write an EQ for the day, and then we write in our journals. Organization-She also makes sure our journals stay nice and have all if the writing and work in them. "Writing helps things stick in my brain better, so I can pick up on things easier." - | Mrs. Arnold In my class my teacher had us in groups for an egg lab and observe the egg. It helped me collaborate with my peers and learn to see the difference of the egg that was in a different solution with my group . | Mrs. Fokken She made talk to our shoulder partner about passive and active notes. It helped me because we did a venn diagram and I told the differences and the same things they have. |

In my class my teacher had us in groups for an egg lab and observe the egg. It helped me collaborate with my peers and learn to see the difference of the egg that was in a different solution with my group .
Mrs. Englehart In Mrs. Englehart's classes we participated in ,collaborative gallery walks in the hall. Using collaboration and other resources we determined various angles. | Ms. Bobb She gave us character from around the world and made us walk around the class finding other people and seeing what their problems was. She helped us understand people around the world and what problems they face. | Mrs. Morales She had us write every alphabetical letter in Spanish also the days. It helped me memorize the days and letter in Spanish. |

In Mrs. Englehart's classes we participated in ,collaborative gallery walks in the hall. Using collaboration and other resources we determined various angles.

She gave us character from around the world and made us walk around the class finding other people and seeing what their problems was. She helped us understand people around the world and what problems they face.
Coach Hohmann In class we used collaboration our teacher had us make poster with our table group. This strategy helps us with teamwork , communication , and collaboration. | Coach Spear In Coach Spear's class we write a quick write everyday an exit ticket and sometimes a warm up as well, we were reading the most dangerous game and using annotations. It helps us become smarter and we’re analyzing the books when we’re finished with them. We also have quick writes. We wrote about what we were grateful about. This helped me figure out and make me think about what I was grateful about. |

In Coach Spear's class we write a quick write everyday an exit ticket and sometimes a warm up as well, we were reading the most dangerous game and using annotations. It helped me learn what foreshadowing is, and made me realize what sensory language is and what type of languages of sensory language they’re is, and vocabulary helped me know what some words I didn’t know existed meant,

Ms. Faith I chose writing because we are always writing notes in Algebra so we can look back at it if we are confused. It helped me learn how to find continuous range because continuous means that it never stops and it forever keeps going. | | Ms. Evans We did a quick write, she had questions on the bored. We had to respond to a quick while answering some of the questions listed. It helped me rethink on what I read and how much I remembered |

Make sure your department is the first to spell out WICOR- OR - be the first to fill up the top of your door frame with WICOR magnets and you will get a Pizza party on us! |

WHAT IS WICOR AGAIN?
AVID divides learning categories into 4 basic Domains known as WICOR W-Writing, I-Inquiry, C-Collaboration, O-Organization, R-reading

From our lead BUFF
Our admin team has been overly impressed with the use of WICOR/best teaching practices we have seen in classrooms around campus. Raising rigor campus wide and allowing students to take the lead while educators facilitate when possible is vital for our academic growth as a campus. Thank you for your continued support and leadership for our Herd.
