Family Leaf Activity - Please Return ASAP

During the month of October, in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness month, Vernfield is celebrating how being different is beautiful. We want our students to recognize the beauty of diversity and unique abilities, and embrace it in our school community.

A paper with a leaf outline and instructions was sent home with your child. Please take time with your child and as a family create a meaningful "wishtree" leaf depicting how your family is special, different and unique.

Please cut the leaf out and return to school to be placed on our “different is beautiful” bulletin board.

Thank you!

Big picture

Wondergy Laser Science Assembly

Thanks to your support of the Home and School Fundraisers, Dr. Graf was able to arrange for an exciting and educational assembly presented by Wondergy on Thursday. The kids learned about the science of the laser light and experienced a series of light shows set to popular music that reinforced the lessons and had the kids singing along, clapping their hands, stomping their feet and cheering in awe. Be sure to ask your child about this amazing assembly!

Clearances Needed for Upcoming Fall Social

All volunteers must fill out the Registration and Disclosure Statement and return it to the office before volunteering, and this includes the upcoming fall social. This must be done each school year. There are also copies available in the Vernfield office.

If you are volunteering MORE THAN 10 hours or chaperoning a field trip, you are required to get additional clearances. Please review the details on the SASD Volunteer website and fill out the required forms. Program volunteers (over 10 hours) must also take a PPD skin test for tuberculosis (which can be done privately or by the school nurse).

Please note, Program Volunteers (over 10 hours) are required to renew these clearances every 60 months. If you would like to check your clearance status, please contact the Vernfield main office, 215-721-0606.
