Sports Nite at PHS
Two teams took to Falcon Field on April 9, but only one could emerge victoriously! The winner of the 74th annual PHS Sports Nite was...ORANGE! This year's competition, "Live On Tour," was a day/night doubleheader at Falcon Field after being postponed due to the weather.
All throughout the day, into the evening, the Black team and Orange team battled it out with exciting dances, competitive relays, tug of war, all met by thunderous cheers from the crowd. It's a Pennsbury tradition our students won't soon forget!
Pennsbury's very first Sports Nite was held back in 1949 in the Makefield Elementary School gymnasium. Since then, the program has grown tremendously and has moved from Makefield Elementary, to the old Pennsbury High School on Makefield Road (currently Pennwood Middle School), to the Charles Boehm Middle School gymnasium, and now as of 2021, to Falcon Field.
Civic Engagement at Pennsbury High School
Pennsbury High School recently held an in-person voter registration drive in conjunction with volunteers from the League of Women Voters. The Voter Registration Drive was organized by Social Studies Coordinator Mr. Mark Cherepko with the assistance of students in Mrs. Natalie Sutcliffe's B period class. The Voter Drive was conducted at both the PHS East and West campuses during all lunches. This event offered students an excellent opportunity to participate in civic engagement.
Elmwood Park Zoo-on-Wheels at Quarry Hill
On April 13, the Elmwood Park Zoo's "Zoo-on-Wheels" program returned to Quarry Hill to show some more students their exciting mobile exhibit. This time, kindergarten students got to meet Woody the wood turtle, Sydney the blue-tongued skink, and Oliver the rabbit.
While meeting these creatures up close, students got to learn interesting facts about each of them. For example, Woody's shell is actually made of bone, not wood! Sydney is 17 years old and could live to be as old as 30. Oliver loves carrots, as most rabbits do, but carrots are to rabbits as ice cream is to humans; great in moderation! Students also learned about each animal's adaptations and defense mechanisms, the things that help them survive in the wild.
In addition to meeting these fun critters, students got to come up to a table full of exciting things they could touch and ask questions about: the feathers of a snow owl, eagle, and parrot, a framed tarantula, a deer antler, a turtle shell, lizard skin, and a fur pelt.
The Elmwood Park Zoo is a proud Pennsbury Partner.

Charles Boehm Students Use Art as a Springboard for Learning
Art on the Move, a collaborative program between the Bucks County Intermediate Unity #22 and the James A. Michener Art Museum, recently took up residency at Charles Boehm Middle School. The origins of Art on the Move date back to the mid-1930's when Superintendent of Bucks County Schools Dr. Charles Boehm, a well-known advocate of the arts, and Walter Baum, artist, and teacher, spearheaded the Bucks County Traveling Art Gallery to educate students about the local artists of the region.
Curriculum tied to state standards is connected to each piece in the collection. Prior to the collection's arrival, the BCIU held professional development sessions with Charles Boehm teachers to discuss various activities. One painting could spark curriculum ideas for Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Visual Arts, Cultural Connections, and Technology. All of the activities can be tailored to various grade levels.
Art on the Move at Charles Boehm was made possible thanks to a generous grant through the Pennsbury Arts Foundation.
