5th and 6th Grade News
December 14, 2015
Hello Fabulous Fifth and Sixth Grade Families!
Our Fifth and Sixth Graders have really been working hard on our Christmas pageant and they did a pretty good job last week at both Masses. Thank you for bringing flowers to honor Mary.
The Christmas Pageant is this Thursday, December 17th at 6:30. Doors will open at 6:00 for early seating. 5th and 6th grade students should come dressed (either in their costume or white shirt and dark pants) ready with their instrument and go straight upstairs at 6:00. We will not meet in the classroom.
Please see below for your child's costume needs:
Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth grade students will be playing in the band. Some students will be dressed up as the characters in the play if they are in band. Mr. Nolting will be choosing students for Nativity scene. It will include 20 band members who will be needing a costume. Some will be innkeepers, prophets, Mary, Joseph, a Roman Soldier,
townspeople etc. The students will let you know. Below you will find a pattern to make a robe-like gown for these parts. (no sew)
The rest of the band members (24) will be asked to wear dark pants and a white shirt for boys and a white blouse for girls.
Shepherd costume ideas: If your child owns a bath robe, all you need is a pillow case to place over head and put a headband to hold it or yarn rope you can tie around the forehead. Another idea for the little ones is to take an old adult size towel, cut a hole for the head, slip over body and tie waist with rope or belt and wear a smaller towel to cover head with a fabric tie to hold the head covering on. See picture below. There is also a basic pattern for making a robe with a glue gun and a pair of scissors. You can use an old sheet and rope to tie around the waist. See video below.
Gift Exchange: 5th and 6th graders can participate in a class gift exchange on Friday, December 18th. Students can bring in a new wrapped gift (maximum spending amount is $5) and we will draw numbers to exchange the gift. Students do not have to participate if they do not wish to, but in order to receive a gift, they must bring one. We will be having a class party that day as well, so if anyone would like to bring in food or snacks that would be great! Thank you!
On Friday, December 18th, we will also be having a scaled down version of a Posada. Students are asked to bring a delicious dish, snack, dessert, or drinks to share. Second through Eighth Grade will be feasting together upstairs at our normal lunch time, 12:20 pm.

Using an adult towel cut a hole and slip head through the hole. Use another towel for the head. The bible tunic video on youtube mentioned below can also be used to make a shepherd robe.
