Our Fall pep rallies this morning were awesome! So glad our students had this chance to have fun and show their Cowboy spirit! Check out the Fall sports wrap-up info below.
We also conducted a fire drill this morning and I want to commend the students for doing a great job, even on a wild and crazy morning.
THANK YOU to our PTO and local business sponsors for a fabulous teacher luncheon today! Check out the sponsors below. Thank you for supporting our school.
It has been so fun seeing our families rally for the PTO Giving Campaign. You can still donate HERE until 9:00pm TODAY! Let's make this final day our best day of giving. THANK YOU!

Fall Sports are Wrapping Up!
The Cowboys football teams are wrapping up a great 2018 season. We match up on Tuesday October 30 with Prosper Reynolds (7th grade is home at MHS/8th grade travels to Reynolds). Our 7th grade silver team is hoping to win a district championship on November 5. 8th grade plays their final game on November 6. Opponents and locations are yet to be determined. Those details can be found at the link below on November 1.https://departments.mckinneyisd.net/athletics/schools/cockrill-middle-school/team-9996/
The CMS Cross Country team finished their season last week. Both boys and girls did a great job of improving throughout the season. Two school records were broken by Omar Romagnolli and Gavin Brown. Great Job!!
The Cockrill Volleyball Silver and White teams will complete their season this weekend in their District tournaments at Scott Johnson and Evans MS. The Navy team has one more week left until District. All of the young ladies have done a great job and put forth a tremendous amount of effort.
Way to go Cowboys and Cowgirls!

Congratulations to our Orchestra Program
Congratulations are in order for our CMSO students who competed in Saturday’s TMEA Region 25 All-Region Orchestra Auditions. We had 17 students compete, and 7 of them earned a spot in this prestigious orchestra! Even qualifying to compete is a big deal, so we are thrilled for these kids that worked hard and auditioned. Congrats to:
Leo Yamauchi, violin
Nashmia Kibria, Serena Oh, Gloria Kim, and Ben Ritterbusch- viola
Isabella Casso- cello
Jackson Reeder- bass

Notice to 8th Grade Parents
It’s hard to believe that we will soon begin the registration process for high school. 8th graders have already had the opportunity this year to complete the Cluster Finder (interest inventory) in Naviance to get some ideas into career clusters and interests they may want to explore in high school.
McKinney ISD offers many wonderful programs that coincide with these clusters through our College and Career Readiness and Career and Technical Education Programs.
On November 8th, 8th graders will go on a field trip to all three McKinney high schools to see these programs in action. Each campus will highlight six classes that are part of the Career and Technical Education Programs. We will depart the middle school campuses around 9am and return around 2pm. Students will need to bring a sack lunch on this day or purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria before the tour. It is our hope that with exposure to these classes, students will better be prepared to construct their 4 year plan and will not lose out on opportunities available at the high schools. Naviance and McKinney ISD websites have a great deal of information about the programs. We encourage you to explore both websites. Students may log on to Naviance and use “s” plus their student ID for both the username and password. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.
Permission slips will be sent home on Monday, October 29th.
Veteran's Day Parade
We will be having our annual Veteran's Day Parade on Monday, November 12. Parade line up will begin at 10:30 am, and the parade will conclude by 11:15 am. We are asking for all current and/or former members of our U.S. Military to join us in honor of Veteran's Day. Your son/daughter is more than welcome to walk with you during the parade. If you have any questions, please contact Shelli Wandersee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your service.

Want to Volunteer?
If you would like to volunteer at CMS, please complete the Volunteer Background Check. If you have been approved in the past, you have until September to update your application for the new school year. You must complete a new form each year. Please note that if you do not complete the proper paperwork, you cannot help chaperone field trips or help with the school in any way. We need and want your help, so please fill out the forms now.
Fall Fun at CMS
CMS has traditionally allowed students and staff to wear costumes to school on Halloween. We want to continue this tradition, so I am including some guidelines that help us maintain a fun, school-appropriate environment.
-Weapons are never allowed, even fake weapons that accompany costumes
-No fake wounds
-Students must be able to function in the school (sit in a desk, go up and down stairs, maneuver hallways)
-Dress code is still enforced
-No scary clowns
-We must be able to see your face at all times-No masks
