June Edition
Message from the Principal
June is always a bittersweet month. We see tremendous growth and advancement in our students. We start the year with strangers and have built families within our classrooms. The investment in these relationships have been the foundation which creates a successful school enviroment for our James Monroe Owls to thrive! We are proud of our accomplishments this year.
We hope your summer months are enjoyable and full of happy days. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything. It is best to contact us by email during the summer months.
Thank you for your help, support and trust this school year!
Warmly,
Mrs. Cyndi Tufaro

Middle School Summer Literacy Challenge
Attached please find the Middle School Summer Literacy Challenge 2022 for all students entering Grades 6-8 (2022-23 school year).
All students are expected to read at least two books of their choice. There will be NO assignment or assessment (*). Upon their return to school, students will share and recommend the books they loved with peers. Should students want additional challenges over the summer AND an opportunity to possibly win prizes, they should review the other literacy options, which include podcasts, nonfiction articles, TEDTalks, and virtual field trips. As well, they should complete the forms after each challenge. (The form is embedded on the slides.)
(*) Grade 8 Accelerated students have a separate assignment as noted on the slideshow.
School Play-Jungle Book
We are so incredibly proud of the cast and crew of the Jungle Book and their director, Mrs. Meagan Sanchez! They worked so hard to put on amazing performances. Thank you to all of the parents and staff who supported the students along the way, from attending practices to making costumes to late picks ups! Check out some highlights below from this very talented cast. These performances couldn't have been possible without the dedication of our teachers who volunteered their time to assist in multiple ways including helping out at rehearsals with lines and dances, sets and props, tech and mics, photos (courtesy of Mrs. Donner) programs and tickets. It certainly brings our whole community together.

On Thursday, May 19th, James Monroe students participated in field day! It was great to host a fun filled day with all students again this year.
Despite a little morning rain, students engaged in several fun events throughout the day both inside and outside.
Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped make the day so enjoyable! We are grateful to Mrs. Reif and Mr. Fernandez for their planning and organization of this wonderful day.

- Child's teacher
- Siblings' names & teachers (inform other schools if older)
- Symptoms (if any)
- Date of exposure to close contact and/or date of symptoms and date of PCR or Rapid Antigen test collected (not reported)

The district has moved away from our individual letters to a dashboard which will be updated each Friday on the district website. You will no longer receive letters from the school.
A Message from Mrs. Sclafani - our School Nurse

Please have your child examined by his/her primary healthcare provider during these critical periods of development to ensure your child's good health.
