News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck

Dear Families,

We have had a fantastic start to the school year! Parents, I want to thank YOU for all the hard work and effort you have put into making sure your children are ready to begin school, whether it be in person or virtually. Every single child showed up to school on Thursday wearing a mask, understanding how to social distance, as well as the importance of washing his/her hands. This is because of your efforts at home! We appreciate your partnership! Please continue to reinforce mask wearing and hand washing with your children. We look forward to the start of virtual and in-person PreK tomorrow!

As a reminder, masks are to be worn by all staff and students. Parents are responsible for providing students with face masks. Masks are required on the school bus as well.

Virtual learning has gotten off to a great start! As a reminder, all students must sign in at BEFORE they click on the Zoom invitation link from their teacher.

It is very important that if you need tech assistance during virtual learning, you contact the Help Desk directly by clicking here. Please do not call school or contact the teacher during instruction with these issues. There will be tech staff on hand at the Help Desk specifically for this purpose.

**Please make sure someone is at the bus stop on time each day, awaiting your little one! Bus schedules are rarely 100% accurate the first few weeks of school due to route changes, so please be waiting earlier than the scheduled drop off time!**

Please continue reading below for important reminders! Have a great week!

Important Changes for In-Person Learning due to COVID-19- Please Read!

* Staying Home if Sick: Students must stay home if they are feeling sick or have any symptoms associated with COVID-19. Each parent will need to do a "health check" on their child before sending him/her to school. All families will receive a copy of the health check. Please keep this on the refrigerator or somewhere that is easy to access each morning! COVID 19 symptoms include:

cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, and loss of taste or smell. Other symptoms may include fatigue, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

** If any COVID 19 symptoms are noticed while a child is at school, the school nurse, Lisa Jenkins, will contact the parent and ask for the child to be picked up immediately.

Please make sure that you have read the RCPS Reopening Health Plan that is posted on the RCPS website. It can also be found by clicking here. The executive summary of the health plan can be found here.

Breakfast, Lunch, Take Home Meals -Free!

Breakfast and lunch will be served in the classroom. Breakfast and lunch is FREE for ALL students! We encourage your child to have breakfast and lunch at school! You can also pick up meals for virtual students at any RCPS school site (excluding MTC and RA on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:15-6. At MVES, meals will be served curbside at the bus canopy. Please do not pull into the bus canopy parking lot until 3:15 at the earliest. We will have this area blocked off so that our students can board the buses safely. Thank you for your help with this!

Sign in/Sign out & Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

All parent drop off and pick up will be done curbside. Thank you for doing an AMAZING job with this the past two days! We will begin car rider dismissal at 2:50 beginning tomorrow. Please do not pull past the cones as these are placed at the door we use each day for arrival and dismissal. MVES staff will sign out all students at the end of the day. Due to social distancing protocols, students will not be allowed to go home on the bus with a friend. Students will also not be able to be added to a bus if a parent is unable to pick up his/her child at the end of the day. The buses will have assigned seats with space for the students on the bus roster only.

If your child typically rides the bus and you would like to pick him/her up on a specific day, please send an email to before 10:00 am or send a written note with your child that morning. We will not be able to honor these requests throughout the school day (after 10:00 am) as we work to ensure a safe, efficient dismissal for all children.

Reminders: The office staff will sign-in and sign-out students. If you are bringing your child to school late, please say goodbye to your child in the vestibule area. A mask will be required to enter the vestibule. Parents/guardians will not be able to come in to the school or walk children to class. MVES staff will do this so you can rest assured that your child will make it to his/her classroom safely! Any parent who needs to pick up his/her child early for an appointment, etc. will use the call button in the vestibule to notify an office staff member or call the school office. Office staff will call for your child while you wait in the vestibule for your child. Parents/guardians will not enter the office during this time. Thank you for prioritizing the health and safety of our students and staff!

The school day begins at 8:20 and ends at 3:00pm. (Car rider dismissal will begin at 2:50). Please make every effort to have your child attend the full day. The office staff will not be able to call for your child to be dismissed early at the end of the day when we are preparing for dismissal. Please pull into the curbside pick up line and we will bring your child to your car in a safe, efficient manner, while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
