St. Michael Preschool News

Growing with God...

Dear St. Michael Preschool Families,

We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17, and is the season in which we prepare our hearts for the Easter celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. The forty days of Lent are an opportunity to enrich our daily lives and become closer to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Explaining Lent to children can be a challenge, but as preschool educators, we find kid-friendly ways to make the concepts and traditions of Lent meaningful to them. Prayers from the heart, acts of kindness, a Lenten Prayer Pot, Bible stories, and our Ash Wednesday Prayer Service are just a few examples I’m sure you will enjoy hearing about from your children.

During Lent, let us inspire each other to create special moments that allow our preschool community to be more like Jesus and grow closer to God.

In Christ,

Lisa Ciesla, Director

Catholic Schools Week was a wonderful celebration of the gift of Catholic education and pride in our preschool. We continue to be so grateful to you for partnering with us to provide the very best faith-filled early childhood experience for your children.

And thank you for your wonderful support of our Catholic Schools Week service project supporting the Ronald McDonald House. We are so grateful for your many donations!

The health and safety of all our preschool families is very important to us. We ask for your continued partnership as we work together to keep our community safe. Please continue to keep us apprised of any health issues or concerns in your home that may be COVID-related. Closely monitor your family for any COVID-like symptoms, such as fever, chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new cough, or new loss of taste or smell.

If anyone develops symptoms or feels unwell, please err on the side of caution and keep them home and notify your pediatrician and the preschool as soon as possible. Remember that if any family member is awaiting COVID test results, your child should not attend school. Thank you!

If a child develops ANY of the COVID-19 exclusionary symptoms families have three options:

  1. stay home for 10 days from when symptoms first began, or
  2. get a negative COVID test, or
  3. get a note of alternate diagnosis from the pediatrician

If a child is sick with any NON-COVID symptoms, like a fever under 100.4, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, our normal illness policy applies (24 hours free of diarrhea, vomiting, and fever without fever-reducing medication before returning to school). Your child must feel well before returning to school.

It is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver to understand and follow all health and safety protocols.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: ALL ADULTS on St. Michael Campus must wear a face mask when dropping off or picking up their child.

St. Michael Preschool’s Tower Garden

As we grow with God we planted seeds for our indoor Tower Garden, an Airoponics growing system that we were awarded through a grant from the Diocese of Raleigh. We look forward to the many hands-on learning opportunities ahead. And we especially can’t wait to sample the healthy food and make yummy green smoothies!

Dear Families,

For the month of February, we will begin with Catholic Schools week! One of my favorite weeks of the year! We will do our annual cheer (found below) and we talk about God's tremendous love for us! We will also enjoy music about winter, bears, friendship, hearts, and love. Here are a few examples of the fun we will have this month in music!

Preschool Cheer

We're fired up! (arms above head)

We're sizzlin'! (wiggle fingers in front of body)

We're turnin up the heat! (Turn knob)

And when it comes to preschools (clap hands)

St. Michael's can't be beat! (clap hands)

I will play the song "Happy" and the children will pick a heart with a body motion on it and will do that to the song-hopping, skipping, dancing, twirling, etc.

Going on a Bear Hunt by the Elbows

Skidamarink by Super Simple learning

My Little Heart by Kids Praise Company

The Valentine's Activity Game by Kiboomers

Friendship Dance by Renee's here

( NOTE: we will do this a little differently-kids will not be touching hands but will dance across from one another in order to keep inline with our COVID protocols.)

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or would like me to send you a song! Contact me at

God Bless you and your families!

Ms. Karen

Join our parishwide consecration to Jesus through Mary! On Ash Wednesday, we will be distributing copies of 33 Days to Morning Glory, with the goal of consecrating ourselves to Jesus through Mary on the Feast of the Annunciation, March 25.

We are currently forming parish groups to journey through this consecration together! There are optional weekly videos to watch through, which you can then discuss with your group via Zoom. There are open groups for men, women, youth, and Spanish, or you are welcome to form your own group. To sign up and receive everything you'll need, visit

Closings and Delays: Our policy is to assess conditions on St. Michael Campus and the local area to determine closings or delays at the preschool. We understand this may not always reflect weather conditions in your area or follow the Wake County School closings or delays, so please use your discretion when bringing your child to school.

Parents will be informed of school closings and delays via our all call communication system through the primary phone, text message, and email provided. If this information needs to be updated at this time, please let the preschool office know.

On delayed openings, Early Arrival and Lunch Programs are canceled and children bring a lunch and attend from 11:00-1:00 pm. This later dismissal time may interfere with younger children’s nap schedules, so again, please use your best judgment in sending your preschooler on these days.

Early Arrival & Lunch Program

Need some extra time to run errands or get to an appointment? We can help! We still have openings in our early arrival and lunch programs. Your child will enjoy the extra time to socialize and play!

Early Arrival - available daily; drop off begins at 8:15 am

Lunch Program - available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; pick up is at 1:30 pm

Extended Day Programs for January – May are now available. Extended Day offers flexible programming to lengthen your child's school day, grow stamina, and practice mealtime independence.
