THE ELAINE H. RIVIERE OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER BLESSED & DEDICATED
Three short years ago, SMM 2nd grade teacher, Elaine Riviere, approached the Men's Club with the brilliant idea of building an outdoor classroom for the students. It was completed the summer of 2017 and the sails were added during the summer of 2018. Over these few years, our students and teachers have used it for Lab Safety skits, the annual Kindergarten Alphabet Fashion Show, Bible story reenactments, Kindergarten and 7th grade buddy activities, and much more.
On Monday, August 12, the SMM Men's Club surprised Mrs. Riviere by officially dedicating the classroom as the "Elaine H. Riviere Outdoor Learning Center." Father Ed Grice blessed the new sign and prayed over the classroom. Mrs. Riviere's husband Jeff, son Clayton, and mom Edie were able to keep the surprise from her and were able to attend the ceremony.
Thank you, Mrs. Riviere, for your love and dedication to our students and school and for your creative vision. Also, many thanks to the SMM Men's Club members for making it a reality.

Slidell Magnificat Breakfast Speaker is Our Very Own Shelia Ganucheau
Ladies, make sure to join us for the back-to-school edition of Magnificat when wife, mom and local early childhood educator, Sheila Ganucheau, teaches us How to Stay Childlike in a Grown-up World, Saturday, August 24, 2019, 9 a.m. – noon (doors open at 8:30 a.m.), at Pinewood Plantation, 405 Country Club Blvd. in Slidell.
“Having been around young children as a Catholic school teacher for 26 years, I’ve learned from them what it takes to be childlike in my relationship with God: obedience, trust, awe, wonder, curiosity and knowing that we are wonderfully made! I always tell my children, no matter how many ‘whoopsidoodles’ you make, God will never stop loving you!”
Be there as Sheila shares the story of her faith journey, her “whoopsidoodles” in life and her tremendous love of the traditions and sacraments of the Catholic Church. Tickets are $20 and include a delicious breakfast. Tickets are available online until the morning of the event at www.Eventbrite.com, and until August 23rd at Angels of Peace Gifts, St. Margaret Mary Church in Slidell and St. John of the Cross Church in Lacombe.
