MSD Construction Update
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s new 30-classroom
building is on track for completion this summer.
With the MSD campus unoccupied over the past few months due to the coronavirus pandemic, construction has maintained a productive pace, ensuring the new addition will be ready for students and teachers when they return to campus for the 2020/21 school year.
Crews on site have made consistent progress since breaking ground in August 2019, and the project is on schedule to be completed in July 2020.
Once the building is ready for final inspection, only punch list work involving placement of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) and other minor amenities will remain.
From foundation to rooftop, building a new campus addition is a process that involves careful planning, phased timelines, and consistent hard work. Click the video above to see what that process has looked like at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The temporary modular buildings, which were used to accommodate students and teachers during the construction of the new building, will be removed this summer.
Work has started to ensure the area is cleared prior to
the start of the school year, including:
The basketball courts, which had been used as the location of the temporary classrooms, will be restored once the six to eight week removal process is completed.
With all of the anticipation surrounding the new building, there may be less awareness about other upcoming renovations to existing buildings on campus, which will begin soon.
