The Declaration of Independence
When the colonists decided to rebel against Great Britian, the movement would not be acknowledged without an official document. The Declaration of Independence is that document. It is the first document of our country, making it especially important.
The Revolutionary War
When the Declaration of Independence was displayed to Great Britian, they became determined to eliminate any American Partriots. The early Americans' victory against Britian was shoking and inspriring to the rest of the world. Britian had the greatest military weapons of the time. The small, barely trained army of the patriots, had an amazing victory against Great Britain, displacing the world superpower.
The Constitution (Bill of Rights)
In the early days of independence, the United States was governed by the Articles of Confederation. This plan gave most of the power to the state governments. The federal government had very little power over the states, leading to a lack of unity. To rectify this situation, the Constitution was written. The Bill of Rights was included in order to placate the unrest in many people, who believed the new Constitution would take away their freedom.
The Emancipation Proclamation
This act confirmed the principle of liberty for all in the Unite States. It freed all enslaved people and made them citizens. This showed that the United States was truly a land of the free.
