Letter from the Principal

Dear Lions Park Families,

Thanks to all who attended our Back to School Night. It was wonderful to be able to gather in person again to introduce you to our staff, share information about our school and answer your questions. We were also thankful to be joined by Board of Education Vice-President Kimberly Fay, Dr. Gorr, Cub Scout Pack 151, Kirstin Samp from D57 Education Foundation, and Mallory Reyes from Lions Park PTO. Our school is better because of the support we have from our families and our community.

We will have parent and teacher conferences during the day on November 1st and in the late afternoon/early evening on November 7th and 17th. An electronic sign up will be sent out in the next few weeks. We look forward to sharing your child's progress at these meetings.

We are proud of the way our students are learning their new routines and participating in classroom activities. We had a successful Safety Week. Students did a wonderful job of being quiet and following adult directions during our evacuation drills, lockdown drill, shelter in place drill, and bus evacuation drill. They worked hard on their MAP tests and will continue to show us what they know on the other assessments next week.

We appreciate your cooperation with our arrival and dismissal procedures. Thanks to those who are using our kiss and go areas appropriately by pulling all the way forward, staying in the car and having children exit quickly curbside. If you want to park and walk your child to his or her door, please park south of Council on School or Elm or east of School on Council. Please also walk on sidewalks only and not through the parking lot. I also came across this video about school bus safety. We all work together to keep the children safe.

As was shared in Dr. Gorr's newsletter, families will no longer be notified of each positive case within the building. The District will continue to update a dashboard to keep families informed. This information can be found on the District’s website under Families and Health Information. The dashboard reflects all positive cases of staff members and students who were present in a District 57 building during the period that they were infectious. The numbers do not account for those who have COVID and were not in the buildings when infectious.

Please feel free to reach out at any time with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Katie Kelly

Principal

Lions Park School
