The Husky Howl
October 26-October 30, 2020; Semester I, Week 9
A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
It's progress reporting time for the 2nd grading period. We know that many students have worked hard to get on a good track this grading period and we hope it will show. If your child does not receive a progress report, you can still check their current grades this week through Skyward Family Access.
We are excited about introducing our new School Resource Officer (SRO) at Hughes Middle School to our parents. Officer Kasey Martin has served in the Burleson PD for fourteen years. He has served as a Field Training Officer, as a motorcycle officer in the Traffic Division, and on the Crash Investigation Team. Before working for the Burleson PD, Officer Martin served in the United States Air Force for six year on the Military Police Force. He went on two
deployments.
Today, Officer Martin and his wife of nineteen years are raising their two high school children. He enjoys fishing, taking road trips and hanging out with his family. Officer Martin says that he is very excited about this new adventure at Hughes Middle School as SRO. He says he is looking forward to getting to know everyone. Officer Martin has completed his first official week at Hughes and he is fitting in beautifully.
This week, we will be celebrating a Drug Free Environment. This fun AND educational week is called Red Ribbon Week. Our counselors have prepared topics of discussion for each day. Please read in this newsletter how your child can participate by wearing themed clothes throughout the week. We hope they will take part in class discussions with their teachers and peers. When you talk to your child about their learning this week, don't forget to ask about the topic of drug use prevention.
In closing, we want to thank those of you who have completed the request for a change in your child's learning environment for the upcoming grading period which begins November 9. We will work hard to rearrange and redefine spaces throughout Hughes to keep our students and staff safe and healthy while maintaining an effective learning environment.
As always we know you have choices in your child's education and we appreciate you choosing Hughes Middle School.
Until next time,
Your HMS Administrative Team
