Welcome to English 9!

Have a good time!

Introduction

Hello, my name is Brian Bober. I am a former freshmen from the 2015-2016 school year. English 9 was one of my favorite classes in 9th grade. Mrs. Allen is one of the funnest teachers. She was always making jokes and in a good mood, but there is some work in the class. There are lots of projects and lots of points.

Short Stories

Throughout the first part of the year, we read some short stories. We read "The Gift of the Magi", "The Most Dangerous Game", "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Scarlet Ibis", "The Lady or the Tiger", and "The Necklace". Some of these you might have read before. "The Necklace" was one of the stories that I had read before but I didn't know it. There are more things that you do with the stories, but I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Romeo and Juliet

One of the main parts of the year was Romeo and Juliet. It was fun for some reasons, but not fun for others. Some things like the movies were fun because you didn't have to do anything. Some things that weren't as fun were the projects for the story. The story was very important for the year so you wills pend a lot of time on it.

Group Lit Circles

We did group literature circles. We were in groups with other people that chose the same book as us. They were books like Gym Candy, Speak, Okay for Now, and Hate List. I read Okay for Now. Sometimes people liked their books but other people didn't, I was I the middle, but it was fun reading something that you wouldn't normally read.

The Odyssey

We read The Odyssey at the end of the year. It was a very good example of what used to entertain people long ago. Mrs. Allen made it fun. As we read the story she showed us parts of the movie that was made about it. She also made the projects that we had to do with it simple but somewhat fun.

Independent Reading

The independent reading was one of the better projects that we had to do. We could choose what books we wanted to read. Sometimes we could choose the project about the book at the end. We mostly did book talks though. Once a month we would go down to the library and pick our books. We had to do a book from each section that Mrs. Allen gave us. each book would take a month to read.

My Favorite Part

I Liked Romeo and Juliet the best because of the movies we watched. We watched three different movies about it.

My Least Favorite Part

I didn't like the poetry. I am not very good at seeing the hidden messages in them and I am not very good at writing them.

My Advice

To be successful you will need to do this. There will be parts that you don't want to do, do them. for the articles of the week in particular, do them early don't do them the day before because you might forget about them. You will want to do that for any project that you get from Mrs. Allen. As long as you listen to her you should be okay.
