"Helping one person may not help the world, but it may help change the world for one person."--Anonymous
Our Path Note Topic
Over the last several years, WASD has used instructional coaches in our district to help support professional learning, curriculum development, and overall alignment across buildings and settings. These coaches model instruction, plan and deliver large and small group professional learning sessions, and work with individual teachers or teams to problem solve and plan instruction and engagement. They help us innovate and stay cutting edge with the opportunities we offer our teachers and learners. We are extremely lucky that at this time we have three instructional coaches - K-5 Literacy Coach Dr. Allison Beaudry, Elementary Instructional Technology Coach Mr. Keith McCray, and Secondary Math Coach Dr. Donna Wynkoop.
In the coming Path Notes, our three current coaches will be highlighted as we look at some of the specific projects they are doing or have done. We’ll also highlight things they can do with you or your team and how you get that set up. With all of our coaches, it is important to remember two things:
1. Coaches are non evaluative. They are not administrators coming in to formally observe you as part of your supervision and evaluation cycle.
2. Coaches come where they are invited in. If you would like their support, all you need to do is ask! We will highlight how to do that for each in the coming weeks!
Our WASD Instructional Coaches are an integral piece of our First Choice vision. Their work is directly tied to the goals in the Academic and Innovative Learning pillars as most importantly to teacher and learner growth and engagement. Just wait until to hear about some of the work they have been doing and are looking forward to doing next!

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Sharon Levick. Sharon is WASD's Human Resource Department of one person who consistently does an outstadning job at processing new employees, answering personnel questions, and updating personnel records. Sharon excels in multi-tasking and is an invaluable resource for WASD employees. She works hard to keep the vacant WASD positions filled. This is why Sharon Levick was nominated as this week's Piece of the Puzzle.
Join us in congratulating Sharon as this week's Piece of the Puzzle!
New Policies
Suggested revisions and new policies come from the PA School Board Association, board members, staff, administration, and others. The proposed policy goes to the Policy Committee for review. The Policy Committee will either approve the proposed policy to go to full board for review and adoption, or will deny or wait for a different time to revisit it.
Even though it will not be weekly, stay tuned for any new and/or recently adopted policies in this section.

Food Policy Update: White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
Of particular note: Modernize federal programs so enrolled individuals can more easily utilize benefits. Many federal programs were established decades ago. To bring federal nutrition assistance programs into the 21st century:
- USDA, through support from ARP funds, will expand online shopping in WIC.
- Online shopping is currently only being piloted in a small number of WIC state agencies.
- USDA will also propose to update regulations to make the SNAP online shopping program permanent and continue to add more online retailers and states to the existing program.
- Online shopping can expand access to healthy food and break down barriers for marginalized communities and older adults who may face discrimination or stigma, increased health risks, or have limited mobility or transportation.
- Additionally, SNAP participants are not currently able to use their benefits to purchase certain prepared foods, which limits choices for families shopping at SNAP-authorized retailers.
- And, as WIC comes up for renewal by Congress, the Administration supports addressing WIC eligibility limitations to avoid nutrition gaps during key stages of life.
