Halloween

As you get ready for Halloween, please keep the following pieces of information in mind:

  • There are no costumes at Winston Campus Junior High or at any of the junior high schools in School District 15. October 31st will be a normal day of school.
  • Trick-or-treat hours in Palatine and Arlington Heights are from 3 until 7 PM.
  • Students, please remember that you represent yourselves, your families, and our school while you are out trick-or-treating, and we expect that you will make positive choices that allow you to have fun and be safe but that also allow others who are out trick-or-treating to have a good time.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

All District 15 Schools will be closed for the week of November 21 for a Thanksgiving Break. On Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd, we will be hosting parent-teacher conferences. Unlike in the Elementary School, where the homeroom teachers meet with all parents, at the Junior High level, the structure is a bit different.

Due to the nature that most teachers teach on average 150-180 students, there would not be time to meet with all parents during a two day window. Parents have the opportunity to request meetings with their students' teachers, but are not required to, and usually parents only request a meeting if the student is struggling in a particular class.

Teachers use the majority of the two days to reach out to schedule conferences with the students in the bottom 25 percent and have structured meetings with the team of teachers of the student to put a plan in place to better support the student.

Over the upcoming days, all parents will receive an e-mail from each of their student's teachers, re-introducing themselves, and just opening up the opportunity to set up a time to schedule a conference. If you believe that you need to meet with a teacher, you would work out a time with that teacher individually, and you can pick and choose which teacher you would meet with.

For example, if your student is being successful in all of their classes, except for let's say math, you have the option to schedule a meeting with their math teacher, and no other teacher.

Keep in mind that if you have any questions about your student's progress, you can always reach out to your child's teacher via e-mail or book a time to connect with them over phone or in-person; our staff is very open and accommodating!

If your student is struggling, and the team of teachers requests a meeting, it is mandatory that you work with the team to ensure a meeting takes place.

More information to come in the coming days directly from your child's teachers, but don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Da Costa in the meantime if you have any questions or concerns.
