INTRO

South Africa is in southern Africa (obviously) and has a lot of late history, especially during Apartheid, which I will tell you more about later. There are a lot of natural resources that can be found here and 4 main ethnic groups.

BODIES OF WATER

The two major bodies of water that border south Africa are the Indian ocean to the east and the Atlantic ocean to the west. The largest river in south Africa is called the Orange River which flows north-west into the Atlantic ocean.

APARTHEID

APARTHEID- When the British came to Africa, they started a lot of segregation because they didn't like the Africans. This lasted for 40 years from 1945-1994. It started when the government ruled and south Africa was dived into 4 different races and segregated the country. This ended in1990 and then they had an election and had their first black president, Nelson Mandela
THE LEGACY OF APARTHEID

NELSON MANDELA

Nelson was the first black president of south Africa and got elected at the end of the segregation. He symbolizes freedom in the country because they used to be ruled by the British but now they are free. He also went to prison because he was fighting Apartheid and the British didn't like that.
