ETHNIC GROUPS
There are 4 main ethnic groups in south Africa. The main group is Africans, which is 75.9%, next is white with a percentage of 9.2. The other 11.4% is made up of the colored and Asian groups.
APARTHEID
APARTHEID- When the British came to Africa, they started a lot of segregation because they didn't like the Africans. This lasted for 40 years from 1945-1994. It started when the government ruled and south Africa was dived into 4 different races and segregated the country. This ended in1990 and then they had an election and had their first black president, Nelson Mandela
THE LEGACY OF APARTHEID
NELSON MANDELA
Nelson was the first black president of south Africa and got elected at the end of the segregation. He symbolizes freedom in the country because they used to be ruled by the British but now they are free. He also went to prison because he was fighting Apartheid and the British didn't like that.
