Librarian Summer Professional Development

Librarian Reboot Camp (see flyer emailed on 6/4/15 for details)

Attention recruits! Please plan to join Library Services at our 2nd Annual Librarian Reboot Camp on July 22 - 23, 2015 at RAMEC.

Reboot Camp 2015 will feature 15+ PD sessions including: TexQuest databases and Britannica (presented by ESC-20’s Ann Vyoral), a collaborative MakerSpace session led by Northside & North East ISD library staff, a session on creating awesome library newsletters and much, much more! Register in Eduphoria for individual sessions.

We’ll also have a special “Base Camp” room set up where librarians can gather to collaborate on self-selected projects such as retooling library orientation lessons, planning research units, etc. “Base Camp” will be a great place to hang out when not attending sessions!

In addition, “Base Camp” will have two very special events this year:

  • Mini Vendor Fair (July 22, 1:00 - 4:00)- Stop by “Base Camp” to visit with vendors in a relaxed setting. Many vendors donate instructional items and assist with refreshments for various events throughout the year. Please take some time to let them know how much we appreciate their support!

  • MakerSpace Expo (July 23, 1:00 - 4:00)- Get hands-on practice with cool maker gadgets including 3D printers, MakeyMakey kits, a Sphero Robotics Ball, and more!

Prize Drawing! (July 23, 4:20 p.m.)

A special prize drawing will be held to give away all of the maker gadgets (including 3D printers) featured at the MakerSpace Expo. Librarians who attended any Reboot Camp Session registered through Eduphoria will be eligible to win one of these great prizes for their school library! (Registrants are not required to be present at the drawing in order to win.)

Guided Inquiry Design- An Online Book Study (reposted)

Librarians participating in this online study will read, ponder, and reflect on concepts and strategies from the book Guided Inquiry Design (2012). Reading assignments and response activities will be posted in Google Classroom between June 15 and July 20. In order to receive credit for the book study, librarians must participate in a synchronous culminating session: Twitter chat, Google Hangouts discussion, or face-to-face meeting at Reboot Camp (7/22/15).

To sign up, please submit your request via Google Forms no later than Monday, June 8, 2015: GID Book Study Enrollment

Note: Library Services staff will enroll participants via Eduphoria, and a confirmation email will be sent.

San Antonio Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge for Adults

Welcome to San Antonio Public Library's Adult Summer Reading Challenge! It's time for us grown-ups to get in on the reading fun too--and to be reading role models for the children in our lives. Our challenge is to read 4 books, any 4 books (ebooks and audiobooks included), between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2015.

Beginning June 1, you can create a record to keep track of your reading, and you can post reviews of the books you've completed. Make sure to finish your entries by August 31 so that you can be eligible to win a prize from your branch library!

Note from NEISD Library Services: The staff at the Molly Pruitt Library @ Roosevelt HS has selected Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child as their adult summer reading pick. This book may be checked out at the library or online via SAPL’s OverDrive Collection.
