Should Eggs and Sperm Be Anonymous?

Anonymous egg and sperm donating should be non-anonymous for the person who gave their egg or sperm to know who the child is or looks like in real life. Donating eggs or sperm should be up to the donor and not the recipient.

Anonymous Sperm and Egg Donation

Anonymous sperm and egg donation allows adults to donate their sperm or eggs (things we reproduce) to women who are not aloud to have kids or reproduce as well or not at all, and for men to give to other men who can't reproduce sperm good or at all.

Anonymous Sperm and Egg Donation

Here is the some knowledge about Donating Eggs and Sperm, "The women are usually paid around $5,000 per cycle, but some (particularly women with desirable genetic traits) can be paid as much as $50,000".,"All children have the right to know the person who helped create them, even if the person donating sperm or eggs did so on the specific understanding that they would never be identified, and does not consent now to being identified"., and "all official sperm and egg donors have known their details will be available to their children once they turn 18. But the Victorian Government wants those who donated sperm and eggs before 1998, often under the condition of anonymity, to now be identifiable to their offspring." Some of the children submitting evidence to the Victorian Law Reform Committee talked of their pain in not knowing who their real parents were".

What are the downfalls of donating your eggs to someone?

"all official sperm and egg donors have known their details will be available to their children once they turn 18. But the Victorian Government wants those who donated sperm and eggs before 1998, often under the condition of anonymity, to now be identifiable to their offspring." Some of the children submitting evidence to the Victorian Law Reform Committee talked of their pain in not knowing who their real parents were". "They wonder whether people they meet who look like them are relatives. They worry they might hook up with someone they are related to. They worry about medical histories, genetic complications and whether they have any half siblings".

I chose this quote from the article because some people who have donated their eggs don't want to know who their real child is. When the child turns 18 it is up to them if they want to meet their biological mother. Some of the children submitting evidence to the Victorian Law Reform Committee talked of their pain in not knowing who their real parents were.

Why is donating eggs and sperm so important?

"All children have the right to know the person who helped create them, even if the person donating sperm or eggs did so on the specific understanding that they would never be identified, and does not consent now to being identified".

Donating eggs and sperm is important because it help men and women who want to become a parent but the women can't conceive as well or at all.

What does donating eggs and sperm involve?

"Most are lesbian couples, single women or infertile couples who are seeking sperm with no strings attached. And many are looking for people who look like them: "blonde and blue-eyed preferable", "of Islander descent" or "Asians only, please!"

I chose this quote from the article because when donating your eggs or sperm the recipient needs to know the race, religion, ethnicity, and etc.

How much do eggs or sperm donors get paid after donating?

"The women are usually paid around $5,000 per cycle, but some (particularly women with desirable genetic traits) can be paid as much as $50,000".

I wrote this as a question because whenever you donate blood you get paid about $20-$50, so I wondered if someone donated their own eggs and sperm and is able to reproduce how much would they get paid if they donated their eggs and sperm.

Are gay couples that are female able to get a egg from another female?

''Sarah Marshall, 40, a recruiter for law firms, and Maggie Leigh Marshall, 35, a real estate broker — used it to have their daughter, Graham, now 18 months old. Maggie's eggs were used to make embryos that were implanted in Sarah, and both women are listed as parents on the birth certificate''.

I chose this quote because two women were able to get a egg from someone and were able to be the guardian of the child.

Counterargument

My counterargument is that I think the donor should be able to know if they want to know who they created and not have the recipient decide because the donor is giving the recipient what they want.
