Looking Ahead in Room B-4
Reading
We will be focusing on the Short i sound in words this week. So far we have learned about two of the five components of Daily 5. We have been working on Read to Self and Writing. Both areas are going well and we will continue to work on building our stamina in each area in order to become better readers. Our next component will be Word work. This will be a time to work on word building using a variety of methods. I will be conducting the district required Dibels Letter/Sound test this week. The test will help me determine each child's individual reading level for future learning.
Math
We will continue our work with numbers, patterns and number partners. We are starting to work in small groups during the second half of math time. This is called Math Workshop. When it is all up and running, it allows for me to meet with small groups of kids and be able to provide math instruction at different levels while the rest of the class is engaged in math learning around the room. The kids enjoy many games and activities that also help them learn and grow in their math abilities!
Science
We will begin our first unit in Science. It will be Solids, Liquids and Gasses. We will use our observation skills to explore the three states of matter.
