Principal Update
Updates & Reminders
- Thank you for your support of our ASB in their Valentine's fundraiser! We sold over $1,000 of candygrams and themed buttons; it made for a special day as we delivered all over the building on Wednesday!
- Class picture day is Wednesday February 21st. Picture order forms should go home with students Friday!
- Please only let your students in and out of the car on the curb side! We've had an increase in students getting out on the street side of the drop off lane. Visibility isn't great and it is unsafe for students and drivers.
- Please remember to send your student with appropriate winter clothing, including gloves and/or hats. While it's been more mild during the day, it is still cold during morning line up!
- Want to volunteer? We're always looking for approved volunteers to run our end of week prize store for students have shown excellent DIGS behavior! If you're approved to volunteer, sign up here. If you haven't yet been approved, find more information here.
- Chase Family Night for incoming 6th graders will be Tuesday February 21st at 6 pm at Chase. We encourage all families to attend to learn more about courses their child can register for, math options for students, extracurriculars and enrichment activities, meet staff ahead of time.
- Wondering when to keep your sick student home? Find information and recommendations at the district webpage here.
- Thank you for continuing to park in other spots in the lot rather than in our bus and Zum zones. We appreciate your attention to this!

Counselor Corner
This week in counseling lessons, students have been learning about our behaviors and how they impact how others feel. One way to look at our behaviors is to consider whether they are expected or unexpected. Behavior that is expected is something that is normal for that situation. It is something that someone would think would happen. These behaviors make others feel calm and comfortable. Behavior that is unexpected is something that is not typical for that situation. It is behavior that someone would be surprised to see, or something that isn’t likely. These behaviors make others feel nervous or uncomfortable. We use our social thinking tools (our brains, eyes, and ears) to help us know what behaviors are expected.
SPS Bond & Replacement Levy Update
We are very grateful for tonight’s demonstration of support from the Spokane community in regards to our levy. By voting to approve the replacement levy, Spokane has once again endorsed our mission and promise – to create a school district where every student has a dream, access, and opportunity to have a happy and successful future.
The bond did not pass, and this result follows recent trends where numerous school bonds across our region and state have fallen short of the 60% supermajority threshold. Our school board will consider the input of our community and look at future opportunities to address the needs of SPS school facilities. Your voice matters, and we're committed to finding solutions together. The district will be informing families about next steps in the coming weeks.
Fun Feeder Pattern Opportunity
Ferris' Unified Club and Unified Sports (similar to Special Olympics) are really getting rolling at Ferris and we wanted to share that our Unified Basketball Team will be hosting their final home game on Feb 23. This is a no-cost basketball game where we have students with disabilities partnered with student coaches to compete in organized games. We are not planning on having any ‘extra’ festivities, but wanted to open our doors up for another free event for families. We are really proud of the friendships and events that these students have lead this year. Specifically, we would love for our future special education students to be welcomed to join this event and see themselves as Saxons!
